I will tip them sometimes in the summer with a small piece of prawn, crawdad, or a couple periwinkles. I don't think it makes a big difference unless your fishing slower water where they have time to take a look at it and get a whiff,otherwise they don't have time to make a decision to bite based on smell. Sometimes i take some scent and put it on the head of the jig. Dark colors work well in the summer-Blacks, purples, reds are my favorites.
