As long as western civilization continues to evolve, grow, and become more open and accepting to new ideas and ideologies, it will incite more violence, resistance, and war from lesser progressive beliefs such as radical Islam. Islam as a whole isn't the problem because the majority of Muslims are able to live in peace with the world and its changes. Radical Islam is a smaller sub-branch of Islam that incorrectly interprets the Koran in believing the use war against anyone who disagrees with their beliefs is an acceptable practice. This is a prime example of intolerance, that ironically the liberal left seems to tolerate by never addressing or discussing.

You are partially correct. Gun control does not address the root causes of violence because guns most definitely are not the problem. The problem does encompass a racial component in that there is a disproportionate number of minorities, more specifically blacks, that engage in crime. But it doesn't stop there. If we dig even further to ask and explain why, that is where a lot of people become lost or stop paying attention.

Blacks and minorities are still in recovery from racial oppression that was/is prevalent within the United States. Overt racism for the most part has ceased, but institutional racism and discrimination to a large extent still continues to this day. This contributes to the disproportionate number of blacks and minorities that are in poverty, which is a risk factor for criminal behavior, which involves guns and shootings.

Liberals want to push for gun laws because it looks like something constructive is being done, but it also fails to address the underlying problem that still exists with the lingering effects of oppression/race/poverty. The problem there is that there is no clear answer for solving an oppression or race problem with the people at the top who make the decisions not being interested in actually exploring what could be done to make meaningful changes, or addressing/caring that oppression and privilege exist. There is no actual answer to what will solve this, and it is just easier to blame the guns, and unfortunately it seems to work.
