Polls are perceived to sway public opinion, and that's why they frequently are skewed to reflect the desired outcome, versus the actual current figures. I think there is a school of thought, which I dont subscribe to, that believes that if the polls make it look likely that a certain outcome will occur, that you will have "bandwagon voters" jump aboard, or conversely, voter suppression because they think their vote wont matter.

This election result blows those campaign strategies out of the water, hopefully forever.
