The rut is usually the first two weeks of November, give or take a few days. Pre-rut is late October or the very beginning of November. Your young bucks are in the post rut. Young bucks will still fight over the left over scraps well after the rut has concluded. The big boys have already done their thing, so the youngins are just hoping to get lucky with a late Estrus doe. Most of the ladies are already preggers or well out of Estrus and will flat out refuse their advances. Shedding will not occur until after the New Year, so that spike either lost his antler fighting or it just never grew in the first place.
