Bush Considers Slade for Top Conservation Job
In the debate over who would be a better president one aspect has been totally disregarded, that is who would Gore/Bush appoint to the various cabinet posts?
This morning's political news reported that, if elected, Bush is considering appointing for the Secretary of the Interior either Washington Senator Slade Gorton or Alaska's Don Young.
What a frightening prospect!
Both men are well known for their anti-conservation, anti-environmental law, anti-wilderness advocacy. Both have a long history of opposing any action that impedes public resources from being commodified and sold. Or gets in the way of corporate profits.
Not since when Reagan appointed James Watt would such virulent anti-conservationists hold the nations's top conservation post.
This is a clear signal of Bush's attitude toward resource conservation, public lands, and what we could expect of his presidency.
It certainly bodes ill for salmon recovery and conservation.
