It's tough finding a decent float rod, at least one I liked. You want a long rod but not too limber, seems like everything long is rated for light line. I use 3 rods for most of the year, all custom built Loomis GL3's. I run a 13 footer for summer fishing that's rated 6-10. For winter I run 2 rods, an 11'4" for rivers that are smaller(6-12lbs line) and a 12 footer for the larger rivers that's rated for 8-17lbs line. I purchased all the blanks and had them made into spinning rods, which I prefer for jig fishing. As for floats I usually run the Thill "America's favorites". I usually run 1/8th oz jigs in the summer and 1/4 oz in the winter. 8lbs Izorline in the summer and 12lbs. Izorline in the winter.
