WDFW has sent out the proposed Clam digging schedule, good until 12/31/2019. The whole printout is too long to post, so I just posted the WDFW web site address...… https://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfishing-regulations/razor-clams#current

Thought I’d share a few slides from WDFW razor clam mgt team... First is last seasons harvest So fop comin’home with only 14 still puts him ABOVE AVERAGE .... A bit of historic perspective ... The harvest rate strategy The BSMY is practically defined as the highest historical density of clams for each beach. This method has two advantages. It allows the harvest of more clams (to a maximum of a 40% ER) when clam density is high (populations considered to be abundant) and it allows for a reduced harvest levels when densities are lower (smaller populations). When populations drop below 40% of BSMY an automatic rebuilding strategy is employed. Anytime a population drops below 10% of BSMY the fishery will be closed. .... And finally what’s in store for the current season Read more here.... https://wdfw.wa.gov/sites/default/files/publications/02104/wdfw02104.pdfSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I notice Long Beach had the most clams dug.... I'd like to know how many "out of State licenses are sold"
I see a year license for a State resident is $14.10 and for a non-resident its only $21.80...…...time for the budget short WDFW to increase fees to out of State persons.
Washington residents get no deals when a Non-resident license in bordering States is purchased.....

Lotsa Orygoogans drive over the Astoria Bridge to dig cams on the LBP. It ain't that much further to go. Esp when they put 25 clam bag limits in place, like they did in the spring of 2017.
While the Orygun beaches cough up some nice clams now and then, those guys KNOW our digging is more consistently better than theirs, for both numbers and size. It ain't that much further to go.

Non-residents pay $19 for a three day shellfish license or $28 for an annual shellfish license in Oregon.

bushbear:
ALL buyers of a 3 day license pay the VERY same thing....resident, NON-RESIDENT, Over 70, Youth and Resident and non-resident Disable
All pay the very same, $9.70...…
Makes it even worse...….NON-Resident getting the same as WA Seniors, WA Youth and Disable..
Now if it was only a few Non-resident probably not a big deal but it could be thousands of Non-resident.
I'd call Olympia and ask how many NON-RESIDENT clam licenses are sold each year but now WDFW has gone to PDR's for lots of information......grrrrrrr
Remember WDFW has about priced itself out of business....taxpayer just don't feel the $$$$$$ needed to keep WDFW heads above water is worth the dollars invested......less opportunity, less fish, etc.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn’t look at the WA fees. Should be different fees for non-residents.

Seems to me to be an easy revenue generator. Every little bit helps. CHARGEM MORE! They will still come!

So far a success story for WDFW as they appear to be able to manage a clam herd.
