A recent Associated Press news story discussed shad and the fact that so many in PS had parasites. I know shad return to the Columbia in the millions, but where else can they be found? I would love to find a run where I could anchor my boat in the salt and do some harvest-- worms or no. I figure that if I smoke them and can them I will get my fix for kippers... anybody seeing shad in the spring?

I wish, but... afraid there are none this side of the Columbia. I've read that there've been some seen in the Chehalis River but apparently not in any fishable numbers.
The Umpqua in Oregon has a decent run, then it's mainly the Sacramento River system. Lots of fun when you can get into them!

Well, if you like "wine country' the Russian River in Sonoma County has a heck of a large run of shad in the spring. Weathers great, wine is good .... not a bad way to split up a vacation. Even your wife could be talked into this one.
