I can't imagine that you all did not get out this weekend. It was too nice to miss a day of fishing.
I went down and plunked the Columbia for the ritual springer thing, you all can read my report in the main forum.
I am really looking forward to a spring of great fly fishing. So, where did you go last weekend, and how did you do?

I was on my way to the Skagit on Sunday when I ran out of gas on I-5 I was just about to pull off and fill up when I ran out. I ended up walking around Arlington, about 4-5 miles instead of going fishing. Fun times Andy Dry Falls Fling this weekend, all are invited!!!

Two weeks ago I put in for last Thursday off to go fishing. I should be a weatherman: I predicted the worst fishing weather day 2 weeks in advance. It was clear, cold and windy. Still, a day off is a day off and I headed over to the Owyhee river. I drove slow looking for rises and spot the first fisherman. He was staring intently into his fly box. 100 yards up I spot another fisherman, he too is staring into his flybox as is the 3rd fisherman, etc. Finally I spot some fish rising and pull over. Someone is already fishing there but I watch him for a while. The fish are rising around where his fly was, ignoring his fly. He pulls in his fly and then he too stares into his fly box.
Yes, I did fish, but only for a short time.
I might be going down to Duck Valley Indian Res in a couple weeks, should be good.

Well...... the upper Rogue is just kicking into high gear. Afternoon temps in the low-mid 70's (true), clear sky, gin clear water (tad on the high side) and the fish counts over Goldrae Dam just north of Medford: 3-25-2004......15,414 3-25-2004 in hatchery 30 miles up stream...1,967 The 'spread' suggests a heck of a lot of fish between one place and another ... like 450 fish per river mile. Glad the wife type is heading to Canada this Saturday for a week. Leave early, come home late, eat, sleep, fish...

Well I didn't go fishing because I was in Whistler all weekend. Nothing like spring skiing. It was sunny, hot, and a lot of fun. I was able to make my way into the fly shop in town and talk with some guys there. Also was able to buy some polar bear hair there too. I'm hoping to get over to Cady Lake in a couple days and mabey even the Columbia but I have stuff I need to get done first.

FJ15 interesting you were 'up' skiing in Canada; wife, daughter and grandsons are headed that way Saturday morning. Only 'hiked around' the ski area in August (grand place to go, you take the chair up to the top and off you go.)
But Lordie is it easy to get lost as the "trails" are only marked with rock 'carrons' that have been piled up by former hikers. The week before we were there a young couple on their honeymoon got lost for three days! GPS time??
Part the cracked me up (thinking you're in the middle of nowhere) was all the cell phone calls I got walking about the top of the mountain.
Back to the question about the end of May and 'winter steelhead' fishing. There will still be quite a few fish in the very top end of the river at that time, but suspect most will be pretty dark. Best winter fishing is in April ... and we're to hit 80 degrees again this weekend. By the end of May you will need PF 35 or you'll get fried! fae

Upper Roge winter steelhead count is now over 18,000 fish. Better yet they've dropped to water flows out of Warm Springs Dam so we're at the 'high end' of flows for summer fishing.
Very good for fly rod work now.

the offical count as of 4-11's tapes (they video and then count) is a few fish short of 20,000.
Spring kings are still now where to be seen ... even at the river mouth. Usually the fishing in the estuary area of the lower Rogue for spring kings is hot! hot! hot! by now. Not this year; almost zilch.
