With some good tides in the AM the past couple weeks(and upcoming) is anyone headed out to the beaches? Saw some nice ones off the south end of B.I. yesterday and then some more this morning when i was out. Close to the beach and very catchable.
Lots of candlefish and anchovies... could be a great time to fish a popper.

By South end of Bainbridge do you mean by the Atlantic Salmon pens between BI and Manchester or more on the Seattle side lined up with Blake Island. Last year we found a nice spot for resident coho in the area and they stuck around for a few weeks in August. My goal is to get one on the fly in the salt haven't tried it much, I have never used a popper, are they similar to bass poppers? I imagine they are a little different. Any way to get a picture of one or where I can buy some? Any info would be great. Thanks!

cfish, check out pugetsoundflyfishing.com. This is Chris West's old site that he plans to upgrade. In the fly archive, Leland Miyawaki has posted his Beach Popper. I believe the popper is also shown in Lelands article on beach fishing in the current issue of Northwest Fly Fishing magazine. Leland manages the Bellevue Orvis Fly Shop and they sell the popper there.

cfish- I generally refer to any surface beach fly as a popper but many of them are really more of a slider than a popper. i used a spun deer hair head slider last year with great success off the beaches around here. it was basically a deciever with a spun head and eyes. It is a great little fly. Also you can take a baitfish pattern and put a Rainy;s pee-wee pop head infront of it and you have a slider or popper depending on how you put the head on.
