Tomorrow morning is a go...two fish limit, barbless hooks, no bait and no scent allowed.

Fish on...

Cool! That's a neat fishery. Always good to see it open.

Oops. Just noticed you said Lake Wenatchee (not Washington). Still (probably) a good opportunity. Go get 'em!

Lake Washington will never open until they lower the escapement goal by about 70% wink

Fish on...

This years LW run is much closer to 30K. Crashing.

With a worthless boondoggle of a hatchery, cooking hot river and lake water that kills most the adults that do come back, a lake full of predators, and a lake that has cleaned up enough to limit the food supply for sockeye fry...that entire situation is doomed.

Fish on...

Well, yeah. LW would be better as a walleye lake.

How about cutting the limit on cutthroat and promoting it as a world class urban trout fishery.
I guess that would be to simple. It’s easier to just blame native cutthroat for eating a [Bleeeeep!] run of hatchery sockeye nobody in the recreational community has been able to fish for in what, 15 years?

Who’s blaming the Cutts for the demise of LW sockeye ? I’ve heard the same old “it’s the bass, panfish” , and other warm water fishes, but not the Cuttthout. I lived on the Cedar for years, and We never heard that the cutts were the reason for the downfall in any of the PP presentations the locals were shown back in the day...

It’s been mentioned in many articles. They lump the cutts in with other “predator” species. Why lump native fish in with non native fish as being a problem?
I’ve seen it mention in articles on both Washington and Sammamish.
Really, what do they expect the native cutts to do when you pump a ton of fry or smolts into the lakes all at once, not eat?
A “plethora of piscivores” in the system. Did cutts not eat salmon before there were hatcheries?

We seem to like to lump native birds and pinnipeds as "predators" when they eat what we want. Dead is dead. The CT need decent stream habitat and Seattle and King County are ensuring that will go away soon enough.

Sounds like the victims needed / added more excuses for their failures.

I wonder when the nice wild Rainbow that run up and spawn in the Cedar get some blame ?

Regarding the rainbows, I know some inhabit the lake but you don’t here much about them getting caught in the lake. I wonder what percentage of them reside year round in the river versus migrating up from the lake. Anyone know or when the last time bows were planted in the lake?
It surprising how well the cutts do in both lakes considering how developed everything is around both. I still think a five fish limit on them is too much and really limits their ability to produce bigger specimens. The 14 lber the guy caught out of Washington years ago was a stud cutt.

Sok....Sauk....Sock.....???? Named sounded like the thing you put on your foot.

He's a great guy to fish with, funny as snot, and unfortunately haven't seen or talked to him in years. He would fish with "Cigar" on the board. Another great person I fished with and another person I haven't talked to in many years.

Met both through Kid Sauk over 20 years ago!!!! Damn!!

I still can't believe Sok ate that fish!!! Yikes!!!!!

Pretty easy to catch. Just troll an Army Truck 3.0 spoon naked on a downrigger.

Would be a great morning fishery for anyone living on the lake. Calm, relaxing, and you could get a couple of hours of World Class Cutt fishing in before work.

The silly sockem-in-the-eyes will also readily take that spoon as well. Fun to catch and release on ultra light gear. Probably killed the poor fish on the release, though....as they were probably pre-cooked by the time they got to the boat. Oh well, they were not going to make it to the hatchery any ways.

Yup. He had it weighed at the butcher section of a local grocery store....but ate it instead of going through the hoops of getting it officially weighed and certified.

Hellava cutt! I've seen sea run cutts back in the day approaching 7-9 lbs a couple of which were caught by my big brother but nothing even approaching that outside of sea runs.
