There will be a meeting concerning the North of Falcon Process on Tuesday evening starting at 7:00 PM at the PUD Building located at 120 E. Fremont St. in Monroe.
One of the most important procedures that effect recreational fisheries in Washington waters is the North of Falcon process. The final product from this process is a management plan that coordinates recreational, commercial, treaty, and non-treaty salmon/steelhead fisheries north of Cape Falcon. This includes both marine and freshwater areas in Washington State.
The North of Falcon process consists of a series of public meetings that are scheduled annually in March and April in conjunction with the Pacific Fishery Management Council's ocean season setting process. These meetings are attended by federal, state, and tribal managers, special interest groups, and concerned citizenry.
If you have ever stood in your favorite Puget Sound basin river or stream and wondered how many people have had a crack at the fish your targeting before it even reached the river/stream your standing in then this is the meeting you should attend. Are the Puget Sound basin recreational fishing interests being represented at the North of Falcon process? I wonder?
At this month’s Sky Valley Chapter meeting we will be fortunate to have an interesting guest panel to help clarify this process. Lisa Pelly of the Washington State Wildlife Commission will be on hand. Along with Lisa will be Curt Kraemer who is the regional biologist from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Bill Robinson, Executive Director of the Washington Council of Trout Unlimited and John Hjort from the Edmonds-Laebugten Chapter of TU will also be in attendance. Both Bill and John have years of experience attending the North of Falcon meetings.
As usual, this meeting is open to all so bring a friend. Hope to see you on Tuesday, January 16th at 7:00 PM in Monroe.
Gary Bee
President of the Sky Valley Chapter
