$6 a pack! God I'm getting old. Time to make some bank on my stash.

I got a bunch I picked up at a yard sale. I would gladly sell some for $5.00 each. All original. I planned on using them, but as stated, when is the big question.

not sure why tackle manufacturers stop making effective lures. Okie's, Canadian Wonder, etc. Now the market is flooded with cheap crap.

Don't discount the "unobtainium factor": the minute a piece of gear is discontinued, the more valuable and effective it becomes - especially if it's replaced by a new and improved model. See: old style wiggle warts, pre-Rapala kwikfish, real cork corkies, Curado BSF's, pre-Shimano G-Loomis rods etc etc
Seems to bite steelhead fishermen worse than anywhere else too. Then there's the "steelhead tax," that $3.99 pack of bass worms becomes a $6.99 pack of steelhead worms if they make them in pink (OK, I haven't bought pink worms in years, they're probably $10.99 a pack now...)

I don’t understand why everyone collects Okie’s and doesn’t fish them? Especially on rivers where bait and scent aren’t allowed. They are translucent and they wobble. Seems better than a corkie to me. These new Okie’s from Robolize are one piece and won’t crack open on the seams like the originals often do. They are also super UV infused.
The collection of old lures comes from steelheading for 50 yrs. now. Wow, that seems strange to say? Where has the time gone? New stuff always comes out, some really effective. I was always someone to buy bunches of tackle that worked well at the time, out of fear it would stopped being produced. Over time, you tend to move away from the tried and true, to the new things that work just as well, hence, bunches of collectables. I really like the look of the latest "Okie" and the "Mercurial Beads" are a great idea! Have caught quite a few on the recent to me "Soft Beads". I still drift fish the old stuff when able. Which, with all the closures and few rivers open, isn't very often. Tough to drift fish and compete with bobbers everywhere anyway. One specific lure I love to drift fish, in faster water, with light spinning tackle, is the old rainbow colored "Birdie Drifter". Smallest size, with just a tiny bead and bare hook. It's killer, and gets hammered. Some cool stuff out there, and it's tough to fish it all, and become good at it. Being retired I had hoped to fish my local beats, with my old school stuff, like back in the day, but they are all closed and have been for years. I really limit myself to try the new any more. Good luck!

Funny that you mentioned the birdie drifter. I got a few of those along with the Oakies. Picked up a nice steelhead the last time I used one. I had one of my most memorable days about 20 years ago. The sun moved a little on one of those days that was so cold and icy that the I walked down the last stretch to the river rather than drive, and there was a ice crust on the river's edge. For about 30 minutes I had a bite on every cast. The sun moved and it was over.

So the translucent Okies catch fish better than the opaque ones? I'm reluctant to buy that. After all, steelhead will hit a cigarette filter. We're not talking about the most sophisticated of fish here. My guess is that steelhead fishermen bite on the translucent Okies better. And in the ad they talk about the translucence as a desirable attribute, following by how you can paint them yourself in any color - which renders them opaque and no longer translucent. Ya right, you use the cigg filters, and I’ll stick with the okies ! But, only if we have to . But, -2, I did catch the biggest buck Steelhead of the week on the Hoh one year back in the Jurassic, waiting at the take out for the truck & trailer guy to return. Dam fish hit a “solid flo-flame Red color” non see thru Okie that my bud called the “Gas Can” A Great Fish it was, 17 pounds, plus/minus, Chrome, and covered in sea lice, but I still didn’t like those dang Okie drifters, except at that time...

I had a lot of that old stuff, but ended up selling it when I got out of the steelhead game. Okies, cork Corkies, birdy drifters, Glo gos, pea bobbers etc. Caught my first steelhead on a Sammy Special. I think Brads makes an Okie knockoff called the Orkie or something like that. The colors sucked in my opinion. SF

Never seen or heard of many of these, being comparatively new to this pursuit. A quick google search found Sammy Specials, and I’m familiar with Mag Warts, but could someone fill me in on these lures and how they were used? Apple Knockers?? A unique name like that has gotta be a fishy lure.

OMW, kids today.........Apple Knocker, used as a plunking lure, many colors, had a oblong body AND a spinner type of blade.
My early days of steelhead fishing, 1968 - about 73-74, was plunking at "Crooked Bridge" on the Humptulips. Got 1st boat in 74, plunking days were over.

Drifter, What you are calling a Apple Knocker sounds like a lure we called a Cherry Bobber. A spinner on shaft with a orange ball and a treble hook. I have some of those down in the basement. Spinners are pretty dull right now.
