A quick Shoutout to another Great Guy still Hanging around here on the PP site -

It finally happened, and my two year search for an old vintage Less Davis “Shovel & Rudder” Salmon Trolling Spinner, has finally come to a much appreciated end with one actually finding it’s way to me.

And it came via the ole PP site here.

A few fishing seasons back, my very last Shovel & Rudder flasher, one of three we had from way back in the Jurassic - like the 1960’s, was accidentally tossed over the boat side prior to actually being knotted up and ready to fish. A pure accident, so no names attributed.

Anyways my search has ended with a Piscatorial Pursuits member making contact, so we met up for a great little gear swap, and I won Big! I got the Shovel and Rudder, and I managed to finagle a salmon fishing trip fooling around Pt Defiance with a gentleman that clearly knows his South Sound fishing !

So, a big thanks to Piscatorial Pursuits member “blackmouth” for a couple of daze hanging around bull shipping , trading old salmon lures, and fishing. I learned a lot, and had a nice day fishing around the point.

Again Thanks J, and thx to the Piscatorial site for enabling this contact.

Now, it’s time to give the old S&R a tow around all the Tacoma salmon fishing hot spots and maybe, just maybe , catch another fish.

Cheers y’all

Can you post a picture? I don't think I've ever heard of one and Google isn't helping.

I like the fact the old stuff still works. I'm still an Abe n Al guy. I get guff from buddies for not using Pro Troll blinkies. I get bit just as much. But I have modified an Abe n Al with a blinky in the middle. Blinkies really work at twilight. Best of both worlds now.

Well, I’m gonna bribe a friend that posts here occasionally, and still holds the sacred secret PP picture posting process to post a few pictures.

Right now, I’m kinda jonzing to keep the Spinner-flasher in itz original, as is patina, derived from a few years of use trolling in the bays around here. Lotsa good revolving, flashing, and luring still to be had though.

But then, a friend suggested a possible re-chromed finish restoration with new spinner Clovis, and new barrel swiveling. More working restoration vs. Rest-o-Mod than a pure restoration.

And then there’s a thinking that it maybe truly hot rodded with a new daze paint job or wild colored blade and rudder wrapping as upgrades. The kids think it could be the Keys to Coho down here in south sound. Trolled quickly, 50 FOW, and your coho catching spoon of choice.

Or maybe sand blast it down to metal, and have it shot with a good version of the old Pt Defiance Special paint in white, and send it down a hundred feet on the DR with a cut plug and a slow troll ?

Until then, she’s wearing a few stuck on flasher decals in chrome flash just to get it trolling again this season...

I've followed this from the beginning, time and luck, matched up and the find was made.

Happy for you!!!!!!
