Are you just fishing WA or will you also be heading down to OR? If just WA, then there isn't a lot to look for other than a stretch of water you like. Come down Rattlesnake grade and take a right at the bottom and that road will take you along the river all the way into OR. The main congregation of fisherman will most likely at Cottonwood creek which is the hatchery site. But don't limit yourself to just this area as the whole stretch of river can be good above and below the hatchery. Oh, and don't forget Boggans Oasis, the little store at the bottom of the grade. They used to have great milkshakes there!
Good luck,
Duke

The rivers flow is at or near an all time low on the flow per cubic ft. Also, it is very low (avg. 3'6")in depth. However, don't let that discourage as there are fish in the river. They should be making their run anytime between now and mid March. Yes,I too would suggest the Wa. hatchery (cottonwood creek)area. There are some real slow moving areas of the river so I would use a bobber and shrimp. In regards to fishing from the banks -just use corkie and yarn with a size 2 or 4 loop hook and of course lead. Good luck and tight lines.

Fishing here is hitting our lowest point. Weather has been cold and is causing ice problems. You can chance the lower river early in the morning and be Iced completely out by noon. With the river at only 6-700cfm ice is a major problem. I probably fish this river more than anyone and I recommend Idaho's Clearwater in the cherry lane area.

I fish anywhere from bogan's to the powatka bridge above troy. Sunday was the worst ice we've had this winter. At 7a.m. it had just crossed into washington. By 12 it was at bogans and the day was over. When fish have just enough water to cover there fins and 4" thick ice jams up your hole the bite is off!
