Well, from the reports out of the salt,(which are quite informative and please keep them coming), It doesn't look good for the meat fisher OR the sportsman this fall.
SNAGGERS SHOULD DO OK.
But in my little world, 30 miles from salt, and the lummi's releasing fry and smolt in the mouth which are unclipped, I guess , just caus I am saddled between two hatcheries doesn't mean I'm going to catch any clipped salmon this fall. What a bummer, as I used to have 20 fish days and release them all(silvers) and now I won't be able to keep anything, even if I wanted to, but the new lummi casino is starting to break ground for the third try and is going to provide beautiful, living wage jobs for the tribe who cares so much for fish.
Does this seem like a common scenerio?
Lummi leaders are urged to speak, I can't, I've got a mouth full of 1000 island! mad mad mad

P.S. I'm pretty well vursed in the practice of catch and release but, what about the smokey flavor? confused

Hey Flick,

I don't think I'd be worrying too much just yet. The large amount of unclipped silvers you have been reading about caught at Sekiu and Neah bay, is due to the fact that these are staging areas for all of the Puget sound, Fraser river, Columbia river, even Oregon and California fish. I'm not sure, but I don't think tribal hatcheries clip, also not sure about Canadian hatcheries as well. The state hatchery on the Nooksack, I believe, does clip all coho, so when it's time for them to be in the river, I think you'll see the majority are clipped, and you'll be able to keep some fish to eat. smile

Also a large percentage of those unclipped fish will be returning to the Squaxin's tribal pens, so dont be too alarmed.
AND the clipped fish runs seem to be later than the non's, they're only beginning to show at Sekiu, wont be strong for about 3 more weeks.
