Parker,

I broke a 9.5' foot CP last year. I took it to Outdoor emporium (where I bought it, OK Salmontackler let 'er rip laugh ) and for 5 bucks shipping, I got a new rod in about 3 weeks. Like you, I like the sport of light tackle, in this case, not using a heavy glass downrigger rod for pinks. I usually use light graphite rods while fishing the salt for silvers or pinks. The key, like posted above, don't reef too hard when trying to trip the release. Also there is no need to keep them bent double while downrigger trolling.

I just got my rod back from Lamiglass, I needed to have the first guide replaced and several other guides needed more epoxy added at the connections from normal use and abuse. Total cost $10.00, cheap at twice the price, total time lost 5 days. And like Flickyourjig said you get a nice storage unit back(common 2" PVC tubing). I would recommend using this to ship in as it is hard to find the proper length cardboard container to ship in. Just cut a bit over length and stuff the ends with some foam, seal with duct tape, be sure to enclose prepaid postage in the form of a money order and ship UPS. Insure for replacement cost of a new unit.

I have friends who have done this several times and never have we been rejected. You wouldn't believe how some of the rods are broken. Lamiglas gets all my business. laugh
