I am taking a friend out and wondered where a good bet for blackmouth might be?
I have a small (16 ft open)boat so Possession might be a little farther than I'm comfortable with. I will probably launch out of Elliot Bay or Shilshole...possibly Mukilteo.
Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks.

Before I got a bigger boat I used to launch at Mukulteo and run around the corner and fish the oil docks starting just past the ferry terminal. There is a ledge right in front around the 100 foot depth.

You might consider trailering to Point No Point and pay to launch on the railway which is right next to fishery. If you do not have downriggers, it is a good place to mooch.

There's a sling in Edmonds, don't know what it costs, cause I don't have a boat. There is a real good chance to get into blackmouth from the south end of the fishing pier in Edmonds south past the old oil docks. Very deep 100+ft about 100 to 200 yards off shore. There are blackmouth being caught off the fishing pier too, I netted one for a guy Thursday morning that went about 15#s. cool

Fishing from the West Seattle launch out into Elliot and fishing from there, around the south end, and on over around the city waterfront is a good bet. I hope Jeff sees this to help out. We limited out the last time I fished it with him. We were trolling Coyote Spoons behind dodgers with the downriggers at around 80', if I recall correctly. It's a fairly short run back to dock and is a bit more wind protected. Mooching or motor mooching plug cut herring has worked in the past when I've fished the PS hot spots. Good luck.

You'll do just fine right off the south entrance to Shilshole. Try the area between the big bouy and West Point. Last time there downrigging had starboard downrigger rod go down on a fish. Got it to the boat....looked over at the port rigger rod to make sure wasn't dragging bottom. Line was flat headin for Bainbridge Island....DoubleHeader!
Coyotes and Hotspots....but others nailing them on herring. Nice sheltered waters if it comes up a blow.

Gooose laugh
