My jigs appear extra tasty when they fly with a horizontal orientation laugh

Tyler,
I know this for sure. You want your jig floating horizontal to the bottom. The problem is, getting a knot that will allow this without having to reposition it every cast. That reminds me, I need to post a question on this.

Still a JV but you might look at using a fly fishers riffling hitch behind the jig head.

Personally I like to use jigs that my brother ties
that are painted out in vinyl. He hangs them in a way that gravity causes the paint to coat the hook eye. I poke a small hole thru the paint and eye allowing line to pass. While cinching up the knot I make sure that it will be positioned in a way that allows for that horizontal glide. I have heard many negative things about vinyl but I tell you what when done right and in a patient manner with multiple coats the deep finish and chip resistance can't be beat.

Just use a dab of supper glue in the hook eye of the hook after you tie your knot! It will hold your jig in whatever position you want it.

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook????

Ever try a toothpick? Works real good on slip sinkers. Use the round ones and trim them close after they're tight. Toothpicks won't weaken or nick your line. They also work good for setting depth on slip bobbers. wink

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

I've read articles claiming that keeping your jig horizontal is very important........I don't think it is. In fact, I know one very accomplished jig fisher that always hangs his jig vertical and claims it increases his hookup ratio. I usually fish mine horizontal, because I think the tail has better action when you do, but I'm not sure it makes all that much difference.
