Tonight I was experimenting with a new to me float stop. Take the mainline and loop it through a short piece of surgical tubing. There is no knot and when you pull on it the line tightens around the tubing. But you can loosen it to adjust it to any depth you want. Or have a leader and use it to keep the float from sliding up the mainline. I have never fished with floats, but I really want to try fishing with jigs this winter.
Anyhow, this seems like a good float stop to me, so can some of you experianced float guys/ladies
tell me if you think this will work?

It seems like it will be too big. If you're fishing your jig deep, you want to be able to reel up more line before you cast. It sounds like that would be too large to fit through the guides on the rod.

My favorite float stop is the nail knot. You can make your own or just buy them. Outdoor Emporium sells them for ten cents each. If you use a heavier main line than your leader, you should only need a few of them all winter.

Jacob's right, I don't know how you could improve on these. I know they slip a little on mono, but you have to be careful not to tighten them too much on braided line. I buy mine, but maybe making them out of mono would work better on mono...? Would be harder to see than the bright yellow commercially available ones, though.

Float Stops....Best there is, for the money, buy a bag of "small rubber bands".

They work great, and at 500 for $2.00, what the heck!!!! They go thur the guides, clear down to the reel, they will allow you to cast. THEY DO WORK!!!!!!
