I noticed another post asking about Drano, hopefully we won't crossover about our questions...
Anyway, I've noticed the fish count continues to rise on the Bonneville and I'm planning on visiting Dranoand or the Wind next Wednesday. First,is this a good day to go?
When do the Native Americans put out their nets and then have to pull em up?
Any special riggins work better than others?
A friend said to use spinners and attach approx. a 2-3oz. barrell weight onto a 3 way swivel with about 4" line attached to the weight to drop the spinner down (kinda like a cheap downrigger- plus this keeps the spinner directly below your boat). Anybody else heard of this technique?
Thanks for all and any info.

Happy fishin!!

Mac

Mac,
When I fish the Wind is when the Dam counts get up over 1500 fish a day. Usually around the 2nd week of April is the time to start hitting it hard. And if I am not mistaken there is a non-bouyant lure restriction on the Wind river fishery, which mean spinners would be a no-no(if I understand the regs properly). Orange Mag Wart!! it's all you need at the Wind. Also, expect some crowded fishing when the Dam counts get up, especially Fri-Sun.

Good luck!

macsteely, I've been fishin Wind and Drano 2-3 times a week from the opener the 16th, it's been slow, but were gettin a fish a trip, nice size 18# to 28#. The spinner rig you're talkin about will work at times, but on normal days orange, red, pink , Mag Warts, mag Brads Wigglers, or Hawg Boss's will work better, a little later in the season I'll run more herring, herring spinners, prawn spinners.
As for the Indian nets, who knows when they will be in , I see no set pattern. Sh!t we counted 18 nets from Homevalley to Bingen on opening weekend, with only 200 fish over Bonnie. Then last week no nets?

umrules, non boyant lure restriction, means if your lure dosn't float it muct have a single hook, a spinner in legal as long as it has a single hook, no trebel hooks.

RR,
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I always kind of wondered what that rule actually meant. Guess I should read those regs a little closer. Thanks again and I hope I didn't confuse anybody.

umrules,
To further confuse/clarify the definition. Although a wiggle wart or other diving plug fishes below the surface of the water, its my understanding that it can have treble hooks because it would float if not being retrieved or trolled. Anyone interpret this any differently?

Heard the American Indians will start launching their nets into Drano on the 16/17 of April. As far as their nets in the Columbia above Bonneville, oh yes, they're fishin' there already like Rapid said.

Also, the magnum/wiggle warts are legal with treble hooks as they do not sink upon the initial cast. But with a spinner/spoon, it will sink right away, so one with treble hooks would be illegal in those places listed so in the regulations book. Here's another question though, would say a weighted wiggle wart with treble hooks be legal? I know that's a crazy setup, but I'm just curious. Or how about a sinking rapala. I would think both would be illegal. What would you say? confused

Krome brite, the Indians will start netting Drano lake on April 17th, and net every wednesday thru may 15th, and no sport fishing in Drano on wednesdays till after may 15th.
As for weighted Wiggle Warts, if they don't float on the surface at rest, they are non boyant, and must have a single hook. Floating Rapalas are just that, they float and can use treble hooks. Now Count Down Rapalas sink, and must have single hook....

Thank you for the info Rapid! smile Kinda what I figured on the 'sinking floaters' and countdowns.
