I have always cured my eggs in Proglow or Procure . I then place them on paper towels to dry for several hours till they feel sticky. I have noticed on several occasion other fisherman on this BB state they like there eggs on the gooey side. I find this messy and the eggs only last a few casts. I am satisfied with the cures I use but am considering maybe making a batch or two on the wet side. Anyone out there have success with gooey eggs?

Dry eggs and wet eggs both have thier uses. I like dryer tougher eggs when Im drift fishing, they hold up better. When Im bobber fishing, Back bouncing or using eggs behind a dive I like to use wetter eggs. Wetter eggs milk out better giving of a bigger scent cloud. The baits dont need to be as tough since they rareley come in contact with rocks.

I recieved a bunch of silver eggs last fall from a couple guys who didnt want them, 24 skeins in all. I didnt really have the time tocure them like I usually do. I just cut the skiens up into bait sized pieces and put a layer in a 1 gallon glass jar and sprinkled some Pro-Cure Wizard in Hot Lava orange, then added another layer of eggs, then more cure etc. until the jar was full. I added about 1/8th of a fluid ounce of pure anise extract to the jars ( I ended up with 3 gallons of eggs) I let the eggs juice out real well then I turned the jars upside down in the refrigarator for about 12 hours, then I turned them over again and let them sit another 12 hours. Then I just poured off the excess juice and packaged the eggs in quart jars that were vaccum sealed and froze. These eggs are about the messiest thing you could ever handle but the springers sure like them.

I bought a jar of gooey eggs once from GI Joes. The eggs were all flat, so I took them back. When I do buy procure eggs, I add borax to make them less messy. I put up all my eggs in borax and salt and freeze them. Might have to try a different method this fall. cool

Thanks for your replys. Next roe of eggs I get I'll make a batch of gooey eggs and see how they work. My little added touch is to add a bottle of shrimp or herring oil to the eggs while there curing. It leaves a smell the steelies cant resist.

I like them about half way in between. If I'm going to be drift fishing, I'll take the somewhat gooey eggs and dust them with Borax, which toughens them up a bit. I use Procure to cure them, and use the jar method, which tends to leave them a bit gooey.
