Well I've been roaming the banks of the Sky for about 16 years now and I've accidently hooked 4 summer Chinook (there not springers) during those years while summer steelheading from the bank.

Each one of those fish ate a corky with a big sandshrimp tail on the end of it. I assume if your fishing from the boat the standard Columbia springer gear (Kwikies, eggs, prawns, etc.) would do the job.

I'm sure there are some boaters like Parker that could give you alot more insight than me though.

Sure. Here are some insights.

I'd use Kwick fish in dirtier waters. Like the Hoh. wink

I'd use bait divers in cleaner waters.

I'd boondogg using good eggs. I'd rather catch a nice limit of chromer summer steelies over a Sky King any day! Blah! A very over-rated fishery...the Sky Kings, that is.

Learn the areas where the kings hold and be persistant. Also, it helps if there are kings in the river when you are fishing. The Sky kings tend to move in bunches. There one day, gone the next, back again the day after.

Does that help, or am I just talking out my a** again? wink

This is Beezer posing with a picture of my fish. It was approximately 8 pounds . I wish I had a picture of me with the fish but Beezer truly believes the rower catches the fish and not the dummy sitting in front. :p laugh

As you can guess I was the dummy up front. wink

Say a "Sky" virgin like myself wanted to give it a whirl this weekend, where would be a good place to put in? And is a 12' SmokerCraft with a 9.9 hp prop suitable? Forgive my stupidity as I've only mostly fished the Skagit, Samish, and salt for salmon. Don't need any *zipper-lip* holes, just to be pointed in the right direction. Also, what's a good presentation...spoons, plugs, roe, or all of the above?

If I'm reading the regs correctly, you are allowed one hatchery 'nook between Monroe & the Wallace?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Gary and Leadthrower,

Nice BBQ, eh? Gotta like summer fishing, shorts and sun, with beer and BBQ to follow!

Fish on,

Todd.

Great fish Beezer. I think if I was in the boat I would have been the one to land it. Leadthrower you might remember my luck from our trip on the Skagit.

I have all next week off and will be making my way up to the river in some areas between startup and gold bar, anyone want to hook up for a day on the river?
I was thinking about Tuesday, let me know.
