Anyone hearing anything promising yet? I don't really believe what I read in the papers too much. Anything happening in Hood Canal - other than a die off of fish in the south end?

Please God, let there be rain.....We just ain't used to all this nice weather in the Pacific Northwest! Amen.

I can't say anything about the Hood canal, but saw a number just north of Apple Tree Point last night. They should be comming down the canal any day now, but a bit of rain sure wouldn't hurt.

Hey Busy,
APT is about 1 mile +- north of the Kingston Ferry on the west side. You will see a number of nice homes on a spit and just north of that, a cove of sorts forms. The fish were in there. The fish ran from there to Eglon, which a few miles farther north. Some VERY bright and some dark. Good luck.
Drop me a line if you need more info....

Spoke with a friend that has fished it the last two days and done well. Fishing up north at pnp, floating bait under a float and mooching. The boat has been getting around 10-12 fish per day. I think I would also try trolling wink Tight Lines!

Bait as in herring? Don't you just end up catching dogfish all day long?

You shouldn't catch any dogfish (sharks) with herring up high in the water column. Hopefully, the only dogs you will catch will be chums. Fish for them shallow.

I guess you could use something else? We stick with herring and anchovie (live if possable) or a huge glob of roe :p j/k Dogs are always a possabilty even with hardware.

Fishslayer75 - Can you give me some details about your friend's technique for mooching ? How deep? What size herring under what size float? Does he use a weight? Thanks!!!!!

Busy, first find the fish. Start in shallow water and work your way out until you see fish jumping. Move boat in postion to intercept fish as there moving. As for floats use a big enough float to support a 1/4 - 3/4 oz weight. Run a fixed float to a inline weight. You want to start off 4-6 feet under the surface. Cast ahead of the school and wait. Close to the same set up w/o float is a 1/4 -1/2 oz weight inline to your leader. Run about a 3 ft leader w/ dual hook set up. As for bait I perfer small. Cast out and work the upper water column with a slight jig motion and slow retrive. Hope this helps.

Fishslayer - is boat position critical? Do you maneuver in front of the school - i.e. school moving south, motor ahead of them and cast out and wait or up to school and cast out over them from behind? I am assuming the first method with the float is just 'still' fished with little or no jigging and retrieving? A lot of questions, I know, but I have never tried this before and hear a lot about it.

Go out and around to get in front of the school. Keep a distance and wait for them to come to you.
