Anyone had any luck with the jig/fly twitching technique that Gordy Gracey discussed in his article in STS October/November edition?

Yes, I tried it. I twitched jigs using the technique described in the STS article and also under a float. I used it over fall Chinook, early and late run coho, and summer steelhead. My success: zip, zero, nothing. Not even a strike. confused I switched back to eggs and spinners and did much better.

I can't say the technique doesn't work but I can say it doesn't work for me (yet). I haven't given up on the technique but unless it produces, it's hard to have any confidence in it. Like most anglers, my time on the water is very limited so I stick with what works for me. In the future, I will try twitching jigs if the tried-and-true methods aren't working.

I would add that a number of STS articles seem too good to be true. This may be one of them.

It would be nice to hear if other anglers have had more luck than I.

I also tried this technique. I did not have much success either. In fact, I did not catch any fish. I will not say it does not work but more precise I can't get quite a good feeling for what is being done by reading about it either. I may give it more of a try when fishing say Hood Canal Hatchery where maybe my take would be better and I know there are fish. I just feel that I do not have the technique down yet. But I totally agree....do not stray too far away from what is working for you. Fishing is fun...but catching is more fun.

i went out and bought $20 in jig tying gear and made about 10 jigs to try this in some tidewater pools. I managed to accidently snag 4 boots one fish took it in the mouth and I ended up losing the rest of the jigs to the logs and other crap that lives on the bottom. The ole #4 vibrax at least claimed 8 silvers that weekend and in the mouth at that.

Give it a shot next September when the rivers are low and clear and the bite on your eggs and/or spinners turns off as soon as the sun gets on the water....it's deadly.

It's a deadly technique, don't give up on it. Have used it the last couple of years and have caught a lot of Silvers, Pinks and even some Steelies. This is a NO BS method or article.

I wish this secret hadn't gotten out!! It is killer on coho and pinks. Last fall I got 11 coho in one day, while my frinds got three between them on traditional tecniques. I tried it on the Kenai thiss fall but couldn't get past the pinks with it. This is for real.

Several guides have been doing this for a couple of years, but they kept it as quiet as possible. I recommen that you do not try it again if you have tried it with no sucess.

I'm sure it will work killer on steelhead, but suspect it will not impress the chums much. In mu expirence they are not much into spinners, spoons or othes real active lures. Yeah, I know they love a Kwikfish - go figure. mad

Keep at it it works ... we seem to find that a slow rise and fall of the tip works best for you ... "like a roller coaster ride"

Here's proof of what they can do, even under this year's conditions!
