PMartin, do you know what the EU is?

Did you do a search on "The Europen Dream" so that you would even know what you were talking about. In your opinion if someone lives in Europe meens they don't know what they are talking about?

OK, first off, compare our 'poor' to Mexico's poor or Africa's poor. Our 'poor' have cars, TVs, food, clothing, shelter, cigarettes, beer, ....
I skipped lunch yesterday - does that mean I'm counted as part of the 3.9 million? Other than a handful of people, American's don't know what 'hunger' really is... Struggling to feed yourself - isn't that called getting a job?? Or driving to the food bank? Or picking up your wellfare check?

You need to get out more. Try W Virgina, or some other state with coal towns.

I don't mind someone disagreeing with me. But you need to a little research first.

By the way I don't concider myself a liberl. Never voted a straight party ticket yet. Maybe this year......... wink

JLH, You're right I could use some more cash. I'm only taking my family on two two-week vacations this year. Cancun and Turks/Caicos, any more spending money helps. Might even throw in a cruse later in the year.

Pretty funny how you can throw in soldiers that may have PTS huh? Make you laugh? You are a funny guy. Ever had an RPG flying over your head?

I sure do love the #1 country in the world...

Offer still stands..

Just to help you out a little

This is a fact. With foot notes, it shows that some research was done.

• "U.S. childhood poverty now ranks 22nd, or second to last, among the
developed nations. Only Mexico scores lower" (The European Dream, p.81).
Been to Mexico lately? Does it look "developed" to you? Yet it's the
only "developed" country to score lower in childhood poverty.

This is an opinion it has very little bases in fact and is not varafiable.

OK, first off, compare our 'poor' to Mexico's poor or Africa's poor. Our 'poor' have cars, TVs, food, clothing, shelter, cigarettes, beer, ....

It carries very little weight in a discussion, and can't be defended when challenged.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for a civil dialog. We are all needed and can make a difference in the fixing of our beloved homeland. thumbs

LOL. You are right, traveling around the US, visiting Mexico, and using my own eyes and ears isn't as valuable as some statistic quoted from page 81 of the 'The European Dream'.

Show me evidence of one child dieing in the US due to hunger (that isn't a result of parental neglect by some crack\meth-head)....

Will these do for a start? I can get more. And as I said, have you been to many coal mines and thier communities? Not everyone that is hard up is a drugie. Besides that are thier children any less improtent? We travel too. Next year it will be Africa.

"Will these do for a start?"

Nope. Even the left wing site "commondreams.org" didn't list any actual starvation related death cases in the US. Did I miss that part?

I never said life in the US is all rosie for everyone - but comparing our poor with the poor in 3rd world countries is nuts...

But heck, the "European Pipe Dream" said so, right?

its incredible that some people will choose ignorance disguised as arrogance over reality.....and some choose to see the truth in order to make it better and to know what needs changing and what needs to stay the same.....

It takes all kinds of people. We need men that analyze and question. But we also need men that are quick to take offence and jump to the defence of our country/regiment/batallion/company/platoon!

How many times, on how many shores, in how many bars would our country/regiment/batallion/company/platoon have been subject to vile verbal degradation if men stout hearted and bold had not taken quick offence and leaped to her defence!

I agree that there are lot of areas that need work, or improving in this country. But I would like to see where we would break out, compared to the individual countries in Europe, vice the EU. Not really fair to compare (1) country against a conglomerate of countries. To make it really fair they should have listed where the individual countries ranked in each one of the catagories, vice just listing the ones where the U.S. was ranked low (although it may not have helped support there cause). To I have worked in the medical field for 15 years, have been to several under developed countries and visited there hospitals and clinics, and would dispute the fact on infant mortality. Maybe by sheer numbers, but I doubt if your broke it down in some sort of total precent. But who knows I maybe wrong.

I stand corrected. We did rank behind Cuba for infant mortality (Cuba 6.4 per 1,000 births, U.S. 6.6 per 1,000 births). Although quite afew EU countries behind us (although a few infront as well).

PMartin,

What do you do in Cancun? I found the hotel zone to be like the upper and middle class US with a Spanish accent. Even old Cancun has Home Depot and Sam's Club. I stayed there my first two nights, had dinner at Margaritaville, and then went to Mexico, where it actually seems like a different country. For the kind of traveling I like, Cancun is just an airport entry point. The vacation happened in Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Boca Paila, Chitzenitsa, etc.

Have fun!

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

cuba has one of the top health care systems in the world and one of its major industries/exports is manufacturing high quality medical equiptment. but before the revolution the infant mortality rate was in the 1:100 births range so it has improved incredibly....

there are alot of areas that the USA does better than anyone else and alot of good about this country but it is a healthy reminder that often boasting and bragging about being the best is only used to cover up insecurity or to create false pride......personally i love this country but my love of it comes from viewing it thru reality and not false pride, then we can see what needs to be changed or reformed or left alone.....if liberals hated america, they would be complacent and not really care where our country stands on certain metrics....
