Any input on these classes? One is coming to my area and I cant decide if its worth the $68 to go. (I wasted a lot more than that on some of the college classes I took..) Any input would be appreciated.

This class would be very worth while for you. Tom Nelson and John Keizer are the two main guys running it and are two of the best fiwhermen in the Puget Sound. Keep in mind this is all about Saltwater fishing, mainly Salmon. I think John K has one of his charter partners Mark Abeitz there to tell about Halibut fishing. If you need to learn, this ould be the class for you. Come to our Puget Sound Anglers SnoKing Chapter's meeting on January 14th at 7:00 in the Edmonds Yacht Club. Tom and Salmon University is going to be our guest speaker. Check here for more info http://groups.msn.com/psasnoking

Elk,

Never been to one of their classes however, from what I have heard, every penny is worth it's weight in gold.

Only 68 bucks? I'd say definitely worth it.

I haven't had to pay for one of their classes, but went to a 4 hour presentation last spring at Pt. Defiance and it was excellent. I hope to make it up the Edmonds next Tuesday. There should be lots of good information.

I have known Tom for quite awhile and think he does a great job of getting his information across. He has agreed to speak at our Puget Sound Anglers SnoKing Chapter meeting on the 14th (next Tuesday at 7:00pm) at the Edmonds Yacht Club next to the launch sling in the Edmonds Marina so you can get an advance look at what you will get for your money. Well worth it. Come to the meeting and you might even win the Scotty electric downrigger we are raffling off.

I took Tom's class before they started the university deal and it was very, very good. Changed the way I tie up a hoochy and that really helped, just one of the many tips I got out of it. Don't know much about the new class, but have been thinking about taking it just to get the additional info. Going to SnoKing PSA would be a great way to find out what its going to be like.

Thanx,

Sincerely,
Roger

The Renton chapter of PSA will also be hosting a Salmon University class at the Kennydale Memorial Center in Renton on February 22.

The SnoKing PSA meeting at the Edmonds Yacht Club on Tuesday the 14th will be a good preview of what Salmon University is all about. After you come to that meeting you will probably want to go to the Renton PSA "official" Salmon University classes. We will have bigger weiners than Renton though.

A couple of things different on the hoochies. Now I tie up with the hooks close together and one "to the side" of the other. BIG red hooks. Glo beads in front of that, with a tinsel skirt under the squid. Pull off about a third of the trailers on the squid and give it a good shot of your fav juice. Keep the hooks in the back of the rig with glo beads and your good to go. Works like champ!

I often use a small thin "necktie" strip of herring, anyone else out there add bait to there hootchies?

Take care n Tight Lines

Sincerely,

I'd highly recommend it. I attended the 'free' one last spring and it was worth it. I believe that in the $68 class there's a little more offered and it might be a whole day vs. the freebie that was only 4 hours.

John and Tom definately know what they're talking about and are great sources of information. If I only had the experience as they do, I'd have a house full of meat.

GO FOR IT!

Woodchuck..being an "Eyed Egg" you sure know alot about fishing. Are you a member of the "Big Friggin Expert Club"? I think I saw your name on the member list at the last meeting of the BFE Club. Don't forget to wash your hands before messing with those squid.

I took a whole series of salmon fishing classes from Tom Nelson in the late 80s and since then I have attended a few of his seminars. You won't be sorry you spent the $$.

Hey Woodchuck! I just had an idea...How about if you and I start the BFE Academy? I like it. We can give classes just like Tom and the boys...
