I know there probably isn't such a thing, but I'd like opinions. I would like to get something that will allow me to plug for steel and silvers, as well as occasionally for springers. Too many choices out there. beathead Any suggestions? I want to get a couple of them, but don't want to break the bank. help Thanks.

I believe they changed the numbers to a HSR941C.

Rapid Robert is right one. The Loomis one piece is as good as they get. Great action, stiff enough for a good hook penetration and $160. Can't complain.

I will go with an old stand by that always get's mentioned in Plug Rod threads. FS83C from Fenwick. 8' 3" fiberglass rod that is so soft you can see the plug working from the tip action. My personal best on this rod is a 26# Steelhead and 2 Kings over the 50# mark. Price is right at 100$$.

I'll second the Fenwick, although I use the newer FS85c. A little bigger, but deadly on steelies and salmon.

Fiber is your friend when it comes to pulling plugs.

Parker

I have a couple of those FS85c rods

Do you think they are to stiff for pulling Tad Polly's?

They work just fine with Tads.....and McGivers (bait divers). The only thing I don't like about them is that the rod has a mushy feel to it when fighting fish.

Hey, that's an "odd" looking rod in the background! Wonder what that could be? wink

My vote goes for a GL2 HSR 1021C 10 - 20 This rod is 8'6" and is perfect with small tadpollies all the way to k-16s. plus its long enough that you can use it as a drift rod or slip bobber float rod when plugging is just not an option.

Stick with the fenwick glass esp. the older rods. I personally use the fs79c for steelies and the fs85c for kings and chummlies.

I used my FS85c with K-15's for the Chum and they worked just fine.

I am still thinking of buying something a little bit lighter for Steelies like the HSR941c and use the FS85c's strictly for the K-15's.

I have only used the FS85c twice with the Tads on and not in the best plug water conditions so my personal tests are still out.

Parker says they work just fine so maybe I will just give them a couple more tries and save the $$$$ for some more drift rods. wink Parker you should know since I have been on this board I think you have owned one of every rod made. :p There is a 1025 out there with my name on it.

If you own that many fishing rods I would hate to see your wifes shoe collection :p

All Ive ever really preferred to pull plugs with have been glass:

Lami "S-Glass" 8.5
Fenwick FS 79 and 85

You'd be nuts to hang a big Quikfish from any of them.

Can't really imagine a rod that great for "everything from #50 Hotshots or whatever up to K16s!" If you fish that broad of a range you need more than one rod. Get a decent plug rod to use 90% of the time, and use a backbouncer or buy a cheaper "Stick" for the Kwikies.

I like glass for plug rods because the tips tend to be softer that most graphite rods. The soft tip lets you tell what’s going on down there a little better and maybe lets the plug work a little harder. I've got four old glass rods that I built in a past incarnation; I think they Lamiglass. Ugly as a frozen dog’s ass but still catch fish. Aw, hell, let’s face it. I'm just an old fart that likes to fish with his old gear.
