I'm talking about those jigs with a bunch of hooks on them. The ones you can't put back in the package once you take them out. They're so damn long they tangle up on everything, and a pain to work with. Any suggestions?

This may not help you if you just want to buy them, but I make my own and use heavier leader line, 20#, instead of the thread that comes with the store-bought jigs. These can easily be wound into a sandwich bag without tangling - or better yet, just left on a rod kept for jigging (a nice stout, very fast one). The heavier line does not diminish the attraction of the jig to herring. I also tie on larger hooks than the store-bought. Washington State has a maximum dimension between point of hook and shank - 3/8" and maximum 9 hooks. British Columbia has no max dimension.

I use the empty packages that Gamakatsu hooks come in. They are great for putting two pre-tied mooching leaders in (one each side of the cardboard divider). I use them the same way to put my herring jigs in. Just wind them around your fingers then slide it off into the package

A friend of mine made me a storage device by cutting off 3/4" "slices" from one of those five foot long foam swimming pool floats they sell for kids. Once you have a round "slice" in hand, you make shallow cuts around the edges so you can wrap the herring rig into the slits. Then store the disks in plastic bags (or round plastic containers). They never get tangled!
