Tooooo much math involved! I hate math. You can't tell how much it weighs just by looking at it?

FP, How does that equation work. the girth was 20.5 inches and the length 36. 20.5x36=738x2=1476divided by 775=1.9045. i assume you move the decimal one over to the right, but where did the 775 come from, is the 775 an independent variable. no matter how you look at it, its a nice fish, i heard that you minus 15 from the length to get a ball park figure

I looked at a differant calculator that I found and it puts that fish at 20.17 Really nice fish. This calculator is never more than a couple of oz. off what my digital scale says thats hy I use it.

I could guesstimate what the weight was when I caught it but wanted to get more of an exact weight and I didn't have a scale. I figured it to be about a solid 17 lbs. I never like to flirt with the 20 unless I'm absolutely sure it surpases it. I'll try to get a pic up today. Thanks for the help.

sturgio, It is just a formula that I got somewhere a long time ago. I don't weigh many fish so don't know the auccuracy of it. I guess you could divide by 77.5 to get the decimal in the right place. I knew someone would catch me on that... It seems to be very close to the caculator that TRBO has installed into his pages. 36" would have to be quite fatter to get it into the 20 pound class. IMO Anyway you look at it, a 36" Steelhead is a very nice sized fish!!!! fp
