Has anyone been fishing the Skagit?

How was the fishing? Catching?

Upper? Sauk? Middle? Lower?

I've been fishing a couple hours most every day and have not caught a fish in the last two weeks. I'm hoping others are doing better.

I have fished it twice in the last two weeks with my buddy. We have caught dollies, but no steelhead. I did see one fish roll. The river has been fairly quiet (fish and fisherman) but I think things are finally picking up all over the state.

There are some on the way. We got one about 15# and lost another on that little incoming tide today. They should be up by youngs bar by tommorow.

Been fishing it a lot over the last month from Lyman up to Marblemount. Have caught lots of Dollies, 1 unspawned silver and had what I believe to be a steelhead on but never saw it.

I did see about a 12 to 14 lb nate caught and released right in front of where I was fishing this past Friday, so I know there in there. It was C&R'd just below the Sauk.

Steelhead have been few & far between! Lots of Dollies.
I live in Concrete, it's been raining for the last 24 hrs. The crew from work & I are going out with John Koenig of Johns-Guide-Service on Feb. 20th for our annual trip. John put us on them last year & it was so much fun we just gotta do it again!
I'll reply to this topic again & let you know how it goes.

Thanks to all for your reports. I fished around some today just to get an idea where the fish might be. No steelhead for me but I got a few good reports. There doesn't seem to be a lot of fish but they do seem to be scattered all the way up to Rockport.

Jeff - Best of luck to you on the 20th. Will be looking for a report of successful fun.

Hey Plunker!

We went, we saw, we caught some fish.
Several Dollies, no suprise. A couple white fish
& a few steelies.
Fishing was tough at best. The rain gauge increased 3/4 of an inch while we were out. The Skagit was coming up & vis' was decreasing at Rockport when we took out around 4:15.
John worked hard, as always. We caught fish boon dog, spoon, & fly fishing. It was still a blast even though it rained all day, & we (the guys from work) are going to do it again next year. I'll be out again as soon as it clears.

Happy Hooking, Jeff

It appears as if most of the Skagit natives in Feb are located in the Birdsview-Hamilton area, while Sauk fish trickle in all the way till May-June.I expect the upper river and the Sauk will get very busy with the closure of the Snohomish system, please release those nice dollies, they've been hammered pretty hard this year

Plunker,

I fished it last weekend, with the water low and clear. One steelhead and one dolly for my efforts. From talking with other anglers, it seems there's a fish here and there, but it's definitely not hot. Nor is it likely to be. The run size forecast for the native run is just a little over 6,000 for this year. It should be worth fishing; just keep your expectations reasonable. I'm not expecting to catch one every day. Yeah, not like it used to be, eh?

Sincerely,

Salmo g.
