Over the weekend my 1997 Yamaha 25,started making a funny noise . I figure I've got over 1000 hrs on it,so I guess it's time for something to go wrong. This will be the first time it's been anywhere near a shop, and I need to know a good place to diagnose and repair it. The motor is running and idleing fine.I didn't hit anything, and it has plenty of gear lube. The noise is kinda like a sqeaky fan belt. It only happens in forward, and I can hear it from just above idle speed, until the noise from the motor at full throttle drowns it out. It sounds like it's coming from tiller side, and just below the power head. Thanks.

Just a thought, when was the last time the water pump was replaced? and or is there a steady stream of water comming out, my thought is one of the little rubber blades on the impeller broke off and is binding in the pump housing?

I've had good luck with Speedway Marine north of Marysville.

Doug, the water pump is the original, and there is a very good stream of water,at all rpm's.

I'll second Jacobsens. And, this time of year they can get it done quickly.

I would think the water pump would be a lot further doen the shaft. would be surprised if you would hear it.
Hard to say what it is but sounds to me like a bad bearing somewhere.Really just another guess though. Hope its simple and you get off easy.

I'll give a third nod to Jacobsens.
