I Canada, where almost everyone fishes with a float/bobber, they all call it a float. In Washington most call it a float, some call it a bobber. In Oregon most call it a bobber. What do you call it?

And those highbrow flyfisher types call it a "strike indicator." Even though its a piece of yarn it serves the same purpose.

Hey, yarn is for rookies...its a specially coated polymer blend, of phenoetholene fibers bonded and welded together to form an indestructable and highly unsaturable composition. Me, I like the big, ole cork bobbers to float my fly under.

In our case they can be called an "obsession" On the Clearwater just about every back eddie has 4-5 of them floating around or on the bank. One of my buddies can't resist rowing over and picking up every one he spots. Ever played a round of golf with a guy who spends most of his time fishing balls out of water hazards?? Its sort of like that. Wastes a lot of good fishing time but makes him happy..

Beezer:
Yes that remark came from my good friend Bill, but I can tell you he uses them whenever he's not tossing flies or spoons.

Hey Beezer: I use them every chance I get, when the water conditions warrant their use. After 25 years of chasing steelies, I have no problem riding a bike with training wheels. Fishin is always great, but catchin is better. I've ground enough lead on river bottoms to create an environmental hazard. Besides, when you ride a bike with training wheels, it frees up your hands for things that are more productive. Peace.
