Are the net pens the best place to fish ? How deep is it there?

coworker was there this weekend, first time out there ever..catches a bunch of rainbows 2-3 lbs in the first couple hours, talks to a "local" that tells him to go try around the boat launch, nada, zilch,nuttin'..talks to an old timer comin in with his boat, pulls out a 12 pounder, and another 12 pounder, and then proceeds to bring in the rest of his limit- all monsters(in my book at least!!)...said something?? about the net pens, don't recall exactly what, sure sounded like fun(hope he's not tryin some april fools stuff!!)
