Some time ago a person said he knew a lake in Idaho that had some big crappie. I have a friend who has a bad heart and won't be around long. I would be willing to pay for information to that lake. Crappies are the only fish that he will eat and he loves to fish for them. I've taken him to Brownlee Resevoir but the crappie are not that big. Thanks for any help. The Duck (a.k.a. Jim Marquis)

God bless you Jim ---- Don't know about Idaho but my son, a ND biologist, tells me about a couple of lakes back there, one in MN, where the minimum keep size is 11" ---- thats one friggin big crappie!!!! It's only a 1600 mile drive.... Hope you find something closer for your friend.... How about small mouth bass from the Columbia. They eat good too... smile

Hey Duck!

I live in Idaho and fish Brownlee a lot. IF you didn't catch big crappie, I hate to say but it was more you than the reservoir. I have caught probably 200+ crappie there in the last 3 trips and although I did catch small ones too, I caught probably at least 75 that were over 10 inches and 6 that were over 15 (including one 17 1/4 inches).
Haven't gone for 2 weeks now since I have plenty to eat for the time being. We also caught channels every time there and my wife and I caught 62 in one day...... Her first time going for them and she was pumped! They were all from 4-12 lbs, and we brought home 12 that were 4-6 lbs.
If you decide to go there, let me know and I would be happy to share some spots and/or GPS coordinates...... Great smallmouth right now too!

Best regards!

Thats a fact, Brownlee is probably the best crappie hole in the west. I also have caught lots of big ones this year. You have to sort through the small ones, the the big ones are in there also. Best bet is the powder river area. If you want to know where there are some 1 lb bluegill ( almost the avg.) I could share that info also but not across the board. E-MAIL me at bg127@aol.com and I can hook you up
