I've decided to take my Dad fishing out at westport for a father's day gift. He isn't much of a river guy but loves the salt. He'll love this gift. However, I've only been on one charter trip @ westport. I went with Coho Charters. They did a fine job and I tried to book with them but they are full for quite a while. Anyone know of any GREAT charters out there that are reasonably priced? I'm not looking for one of those HUGE boats that carries 25 fisherman. I'd like something a little more intimate so my dad and I can talk and hang out without 20 other people.
Thanks fellas
Cuttie

Try Deep Sea Charters they were running a couple smaller boats last year. Had a great time on the "slammer" nice boat and a great skipper and crew

Well I can't really help you out with a smaller boat, but if you decide you have have to go with a bigger boat, I would HIGHLY recommend a boat called the Freedom out of Westport Charters. Capt. Chuck Custer and his main Deck Hand Bob, are just fantastic. I go on 1 Halibut Trip and 1 bottom fishing trip at westport every year and it will always be on the Freedom. I even skipped the opening weekend of Halibut this year because I couldn't get on the Freedom until the second weekend. He will be the first boat underway and the lastboat back to make sure you get your moneys worth out of every trip! In fact my bottom fishing trip is on June 21st aboard the Freedom.

Hope you get the kind of trip you're looking for, but if you have to go with one of the bigger boats, check out the Freedom with Westport Charters.

I'd second Westport Charters if you have to go on a bigger boat, but I'd recommend skipper Kevin Vassereno on the Gold Rush. Kevin started as a deckhand in a charter business my Dad and friends started back in the early 70s' and now is a school teacher in Olympia who charters in summer. His boat is a 43-foot Delta, not way big, totally retrofitted in the last couple years. Best thing is the guy knows how to fish as well as anyone down there. Heard nothing but good about Custer, too. 360-268-9210.
