9 foot tide change with low occuring at 8:19 AM. Debris found at 8:40 AM.

This is really sad. Too many people just don't realize the dangers that exist in the ocean and particularly crossing bars. Rogue waves do happen but there's usually an indication of the danger before these occur. I learned years ago watching disasters at Tillamook that you better be very careful when the current is ebbing. I won't even cross the bar on a strong ebb as that's when the greatest chance of a large wave occurs.
Probably didn't have life jackets on either.

I read the weather report and didn't even consider going down there today, even after 3 consecutive days of loading the boat with slabs. People really need to use some common sense and watch what they are doing. Betcha no life jackets were worn either.

Your guess is right. No life jackets were on although one guy managed to slip his arms through one that was floating after the capsize. The other one held onto a floating piece of wood.

There is a reason the coast gaurd does training at the mouth of the columbia, it can be one of the most dangerous places in the world for boats and boaters.

Wow I was just fishing out at the B-10 line yesterday and was unaware any of this was happening. The river was calm for the most part. Just goes to show that the conditions on the bar can be very deceiving and till you are out there in it.
