B of D I cant answer your on a drift boat but being a retired Bass tourny fisherman, I have tons of experence with electric motors and installing them on different boats. I have had a flat bottom jon boat that I used to fish redsfish in fla with that had a rip tide on it its a ok motor. the biggest problem I see mounting them on a drift boat is I dont believe they come with a break away bracket. this would become a problem if you ran accross a bar or a submerged log. damage to the motor and possibly to the gunnel/transum of the boat. some one could probly make some money if the designed a spring type break away for transum motor like they have on the bow mounted motors...DJ

Willy thanks for that info, I never thought about that, My experence with a non-break away on a jon boat wasnt very plesent, infact we broke a seat off and landed on 2 all star rods when (I almost hate to say this in print) we ran up on top a big manatee she was speeding out of a little canal when we were going inbound to fish, water in the St Johns river in fla is the color of burnt coffee. she hung up jut for a second on the motor and we almost tiped over, and this was a very stable jon boat.....I beleve the breakaway bar is a great idea, and like I said before the guy who came up with it is making $$$

Their estimate of $1000.00 was very low, try $1500.00 to get it right. Make sure you use 6 gauge wire instead of 8 gauge like the story mentioned. The 6 will perform better says the factory! FYI

Maiden voyage of the 24V 74lb electric motor on the 16ft Alumaweld driftboat went well. The river was high and blown out but was an excellent day to test the new set-up. First, my able mate in the front was 200lb+, me too!Combined with the whole set-up from the STS article we set sail in the mighty Sky at Ben Howard. I practiced pulling plugs through the next 1/4 mile of river on the motor the entire time. (2 hours) Floated to several other holes and side drifted them and went back up through them again, several times (3 hours) . Here are a few notes from the trip: 1) Holy _hit this is hard to keep straight in swift water pulling plugs. Must practice more before taking someone I love. 4) Had plenty of power! With plenty in reserve! 5) Variable speed control is All in all, if you want to maximize your fishing time in the driftboat and maximize the water you can cover without looking like the Gov of California, an electric is the _hit! Oh, we went 0 for 0!

Chum, a couple of thing I found that make it easier to control the boat. First off did you turn the head around so that you could go down stream like a normal driftboat would? Second is ship our your oars the blades will act as rudders and keep the boat more stable. Hope that helps

I did change it around like the STS article Much more practice in swift water is needed, I think it needs more weight in the front end, maybe I need an extension handle, and move me forward.
