Please pass this on to anyone who you think might be able to get the
word out. We need to let the right people know that this is not
acceptable.

One of my fellow PSA club members was just in with the
following
report. He seen a pickup truck loaded with chum bodies. In talking with
the
tribal man in the truck they were putting the chum in 150 crab pots in
the
area around Des Moines each day. As we all know crabbing is closed to us
in
all areas. He also said that his tribe was just going to start shrimping
in
this same area. We are told that to protect the spawning of the shrimp
the
season for us does not open until mid April. To me this again looks like

double standards that should be dealt with.

Tom.....I am surprised that you are surprised by the tribes harvest at all costs mentality. I wish we could get photos of this stuff so they could be posted all over the place. Publicity of the wonton waste and greed of the tribes is what may slow them down eventually.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention

G-2 ---I posted this to get it out there for Tom .They can get the quota on there 1/2 of the crab but what ticks me off is the shrimp .Why would they want to shrimp during the spawning season? Wouldn't this diminish the population by reducing the number of reproductive females?

I bought a boat. I bought crabbing gear. I saved bait.

I barely have any crabs on my punch card.

I don't care who's getting them. It isn't me!

See ya'll at the next Commission meeting!

It is time to really get pissed people and say enough is enough....... Like their ancestors caught shrimp?? Probably snorkled for them using cat-tail reeds... Yeah, right.
How about this? Since it is well established that they get 50% of the harvestable fish, etc, then they also have to take 50% of the load of sacrafice that we do in order to increase stocks. I for one am so GDamn mad at this "cake and eat it too" approach that is the status quo for the tribes anymore... And people wonder why so many are getting angry and biased against the tribes? How can they be so stupid as to not understand when we (no-tribal) are told we cannot crab because of low stocks, yet the tribes continue to crab unchecked? Just sickens me......

This pi@#es me off too, but i protest by not buying the cheap fish that they sell, and not going to their casino's or buying booze, or cigs or anything, have even told them,( because i live not too far from the wal-mart in marysville) that i would rather starve than to help anyone decimate a species, by purchasing their ill gotten gains.Have nothing against anyone personally, BUT let us all play on the same field with the SAME RULES.Anything else is unacceptable.........

Lets save time and just give the tribes 50% of your income. Give them 50% of the Mariners , Seahawks, and Sonics. Give them 1.5 of your 3 children. Lets give them more rights than you or I have to fish, gamble , smoke, hunt. Lets let them do and have whatever they desire,to make up for the lack of thier ability to do as thier ancestors did. I mean it's not like my ancestrial history included what we deprive them of.

You are all going to be sorry when the white man is a minority. Because of the Indian example, we've learned how to yank the liberal chain. We're going to take from you! And my tribe is going to step on your tribes neck!

If you really want to drive a permanant stake between races, make them live by diffrent rules. Good luck with that! Documenting and reporting abuse seems to be the only way I see to garner the necessary public support that is needed to re-visit these discriminative laws. What ever happend to "Every man is created equal"? Well, somewhere between creation and where we are now, equality took a left turn. Sad.

All men are created equal unless your white. Then your just low life scum.

The reason? We dont not stand or fight for are rights anymore we just kick back and let the liberals give them away for others to take.

Special rights to:

Pacific oysters? Hmmm didnt they come from Japan?

Spot shrimp? Oh ya like they really free dove in 150' plus in 45 degree water!

Butter clams steamers cockles? Japan! japan!japan!

Squid? I really doubt that one too.

Surf smelt? they were also a introduced species.

Shad? definetly introduced!

I am sure theres more......

Makes me sick along with the waste. They are not even forced to obey the treaties. If they were it wouldnt be so bad. IE usaull and accustom ways.

Am I just jealous hell yes! I would l love to have special rights too! Thats human nature.
I blame the government more then I blame the indians.

Ill tell you what.

Another fine example is the smoking ban in pierce county. It does not pertain to indian owned establishments. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out the pierce county council and the restauraunt owners association was paid off by thge indians. No smoking in non tribal restauraunts and bars means more business for the tribes. Go figure?

The way the fisheries are being managed now is forcing more people to buy tribally caught sea food. just look at the crabbing seasons to start with!

After the report of the Tribes Crabbing recently, and soon to start
Shrimping, I contacted the WDFW for an explanation, here it is:

-----Original Message-----

Thank you for your e-mail correspondence to the Washington Department of
Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Fish Program.

All Puget Sound Marine Area crustacean (crab and shrimp) fisheries have
assigned state sport, state commercial, and treaty harvest quotas. An
area is closed to a group when its particular quota is reached or, in
the case of Dungeness crab, to all groups when the molt starts.

The allocation of shrimp and crab to specific user groups is the result
of the 1994 Federal Court Order (Rafeedie Decision) that provided 50% of
the total harvest to treaty tribes and 50% to state fishers.

The crab seasons typically open in the summer when the molt is completed
to both sport and treaty fishers. In most areas the sport fishery is
open 7 days a week until the quota is taken in each Marine Area and then
it closes. The treaty fishers design their seasons to take part of
their quota in the summer and part in the winter months. Depending on
the area and the time of year (other than molt closures) sporadic treaty
fishing maybe taking place.

At this time all sport crab fishing quotas have been taken in Puget
Sound and the areas all areas are closed to sport crabbing. State
commercial crab fishing (which opens Oct 1 each year) and treaty fishing
seasons are open in some areas where the quotas have not been taken and
closed in others with quota remaining.

All shrimp fishing is closed in Puget Sound at this time. The shrimp
fisheries open in late spring to early summer for State sport,
commercial, and treaty shrimp fishers. As in crab, the seasons in each
area for each group continue until their respective quotas are
harvested, which at the latest occurs by September of each year.

For your information, the latest sport, commercial and treaty crab
harvest file for this year is attached which provides by area and month
catch data and harvest quotas.

If you have further questions, please email again or call (360)
902-2700. Our Customer Service hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday
through Friday.

Sincerely,
Fish Program
