State is probaby going to close Reiter, the Wallace, Cascade and Tokul Creek area on the Snoqualmie because they're not getting enough fish back to the hatcheries.

Just curious as to why Reiter recyled a bunch of fish back into the Sky yesterday then?

Check the WDFW web site hatchery report and you'll find "spawned fish returned to Skykomish River."

I was fishing the wallace today and one of the hatchery personell told me tonight they are going to post a closure for the wallace from the hatchery to hwy 2 and Rieter. I guess they already kicked every one off of tokul creek. The reason for the closure is a hatchery down in the puyallup area has had a really bad return so they are going to supply eggs. The hatchery guy wouldn't tell me which hatchery. Why do this? The bogachiel hatchery has had a huge surplus of fish, so much that they tried to give a bunch to the Quillayute tribe and they didn't want them. Why not use the eggs to suppliment another hatchery or recycle the fish down stream? Another classic case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. beathead

Was just at Tokul/Big Eddy area and the Game Warden was booting people off the river and posting signs at about 12:00. He said it officially closed yesterday, but the Wardens weren't informed of it until today!!! Also, I put a call in to the WDFW Mill Creek office at about 12:30 and the lady there said there was no official closure yet, but one was expected to be announced later today or tomorrow! If this isn't typical WDFW then I don't know what is.

I did make a comment to the hatch guy about all the bankies getting a little miffed for loosing thier terminal fisheries and he said they have nothing to camplain about because of the good year they have had.

Talked to a Biologist at Tokul on Sunday and he was sorting fish that had come up since the previous thursday. He sorted them into the following catagories: Winter hens (ripe), winter hen (green), Winter bucks , Swinters, ask me more about that later... summer hens and summer bucks. When I left it was almost over and there were as many summer fish as winter fish eek saw several winter fish in the 15 lb range. I was really surprised by the quantity of summer fish. But than again I have no reference point.

I go up and check out the circus at Tokul a few times a week and saw the WDFW guys posting signs. It was fun watching all the hole sfill up below there to Fall City. I found a 15lb summer run floating almost dead sunday when I took the kids to the river to play. It was real beat up.

Forgot to say that the warden told me reiter, wallace, and tokul/big eddy were all closed! However, I just got off the phone with a buddy who lives up there and he said there is nothing posted at the wallace or reiter and people are fishing away!

By having not hooked a fish since last year, I was starting to feel sorry for myself so i made the trip to the trout farm(reiter rolleyes )today eek

No closures posted yet and no gamies around.

Now i know why i left Reiter many years ago. After bringing up wads of mono everyother cast and wading through the fish guts and garbage, i know now why i dont fish there.

And to top it all off i couldnt even catch a freakin fish at Reiter beathead

Close it down baby evil evil

It's ridiculous. In the upper section of Tokul Creek, above the fish trap, there's hundreds of steelhead in those pools. One guy today asked the gamie why they can't net those fish to use for spawning at the hatchery, after all, the fish are of hatchery origin. The gamie told him that doing so would defeat the purpose. The purpose of what, he wouldn't say, I guess the purpose is to end sport fishing there as there's no other reason.

This is either the second or third year in a row they've put this closure in effect. Both years, the hatchery has had their quota by the first week of February. You'd think they'd open it up again for the rest of the month, but no.

Ya know, there are other places to catch fish rather than at these places. Try going out to explore. I hear all of the whining on this board, but what the heck is that gonna accomplish? Get out and try something new. It was nice getting my first couple steelhead of the season at the terminal fisheries just to kick the rust off, but who are we kidding, those places are a joke. Get out, enjoy the scenery, fish and have a good time, all of which is tough to do at places like reiter. It's called FISHING, not CATCHING for a reason.

So the bad news is that Reiter is closed. The good news is that the other 30 miles of the Skykomish is still open.

The bad news is that the best bank access on the Snoqualmie is closed. Personally, I don't care about the Sky as it's a much longer drive.

Jacob,

I cannot find any place on the web or the WDFW hotline that says the river is closed above Plumb Landing. Guess if I was there I would have the river to myself, since there is NO posted closure of this area.

I have called the WDFW and they say the Snoqualmie is not closed and they don't understand what the agent was doing. Sounds like this warden needs to be reported.
