There is nothing wrong with Snoopy, I thought it would make a fine float rod and all i'd have to do is take off the Snoopy and put on a PSA logo and maybe a couple flakes of glitter to make it attractive to those bass fisherman als

We need to hear from Surecatch on this issue.

By the way the Shimano regional sales rep has never heard of Dave Vedder. He knows who grandpa is though.

Grandpa:

Of course he knows you. You are a legend!

As for my opinion on the reels, I use a Shimano Curado and a Citica. I also use a Pflueger Trion. They are all fine and I think are all comparable. Tell your Shimano rep. that I will be using a lot more Pfluegers in the future as they give them to me free.

The absolute best reel for a float rod is a centre pin, but . . .

As for the Dave Vedder signature rod, the originals had a facsimile of my signature on them. Now days both Bill’s rods and mine have some computer generate "signature". I like the old one better. You can't read my handwriting but at least it was my writing.

The Dave Vedder Lamiglas X106 MLC-T 10'6" float rod just came in from Lamiglas today. All I need to do is get the reel of choice recommended by Dave and fill it with line and we are set for another HOT raffle item for the seminar Feb 10th. I see the signature on the rod and the one I have in Dave's book that he signed for me and I think I like the computer one...Atleast I can tell what it says....

The meeting on the 10th is going to be exciting to say the least. I am going to the Herzog meeting tomorrow night at 3Rivers to see if Bill can hold a candle to Dave when it comes to giving a talk about fishing.

AuntyM... I think Dave still believes that we are politically incorrect....but he is a nice man and I forgive him for being wrong. Notice how we talk about fishing for the most part?

I attended Dave Vedder's seminar at Three Rivers Marine. What a presentation! He really simplified a few things that I thought were complicated. He also added some humor to it. Thanks to JR I have started fishing local rivers again. I used to about 8 years ago when my oldest boy was 13. I took him to Reiter on a bitter cold morning. We were standing in the river in the last hole before the whitewater. I was getting bumps. My son, Nate, got his gear tangled up. Of course it was combat fishing. The guy above me-15 feet away, listened to me tell Nate where there was a fish sitting. I was helping Nate retie his gear. This guy cast his gear into that hole and pulled out the fish I had found for my son. I glared him down wondering if I should deck him or leave. What a jerk. We left. I hadn't really river fished much again and went to strictly saltwater, other than guide fishing on the Peninsula. I am back at it and having fun and my younger son is doing it too at 14. Haven't been back to Reiter. JR and Dave's seminar got my blood going again. There are a lot of things that Dave made simple. He is also a great guy. Looking forward to seeing you on Feb 10th. By the way if you don't have time to go home and have dinner, spaghetti and garlic bread will be available for $3.00 a plate.

ATTENTION STEELHEADERS:

Do not miss the Dave Vedder seminar on February 10th at 7PM at the Edmonds yacht Club. Puget Sound Anglers SnoKing Chapter not only is blessed to have Dave Vedder speaking on float fishing but we also are going to raffle off a couple of exceptional outfits:

First the LamiGlas Dave Vedder model 10'6" float rod with a Pflueger Trion reel ...

And on top of that great combo we will offer the custom made float rod JR is making for us and attached to that rod will be the Islander Steelheader center pin reel. WOW!!! That is approaching $1000 in value.

We will have a capacity crowd I'm sure so come early for a good seat.

Remember members of our chapter each receive a free raffle ticket and that includes anyone who joins the night of the meeting. The membership cost is $25 and includes a subscription to the Reel News and also a one year membership in the RFA. The paper alone is worth the cost of the membership. And past experience shows that new members win raffle prizes with their free ticket. Last month a new member who signed up at the January meeting got his free ticket and won the Scotty electric downrigger. So I know there will be lots of interest in these 2 fabulous rod/reel combos and the great talk we can expect from Dave... hello

JR,

I noticed one minor issue. The rod your building looks to be designed for a baitcaster reel with the short upper cork and the trigger reel seat.

Centerpin rods are usually 10.5' or more in length with a longer upper cork, similar to a spey rod. Like this:

The action of the rod needs to be slow as well (like a flyrod) to better facilitate casting with the Centerpin reel.

The rod you're building definitely looks very nice, I'm just not sure that it will match up well with the Islander reel. smile

I agree with you and thank you 4Salt for pointing this out.

We have made changes to the raffle prizes eek

When we started the project, we where going to raffle a custom made float rod and put a curado reel on it. So I built the rod with a trigger style grip with cork & guides for a baitcasting reel, it is not perfect for the steelheader reel. We thought that raffling the custom built rod and the steelheader reel together would be a great attraction for the raffle. laugh

We are now going to raffle them separately. thumbs

By splitting the Islander from the custom made rod, we would then have THREE outstanding raffle prizes thumbs thumbs

1.) Dave Vedder Lamigals Rod with a Pflueger Trion reel.

2.) Custom made 10'6 Float Rod

3.) Islander Steelheader Reel
I will even offer to build the same Float rod set-up for the Steelheader reel for the price of the components to whoever wins it.

We hope you like the changes

Thanks 4Salt for pointing out the compatibility issue. Now we have sweetened the pot considerably. Whomever wins the custom float rod will have to use the reel of their choice but the winner of the Islander can opt to have a custom float rod to match the reel made at the cost of the components...Now that is a DEAL

I would gladly take the custom rod and split the two. I cannot find a good deal on the islander reel. These are going from $350. for the reel alone.

Just put the final coat of clear epoxy on the rod. I looks sweet, kind of hard to give up. I’ll change the pictures I posted of it tomorrow.

Hope to see you there on Tuesday.
