I am missing a ceramic or whatever it is made of (china? or Fuji ) part of one of the guides. The rest of the guide looks great and they want me to send the rod back for free repair. Anyone sells the ceramic part? I can find the whole guide but not the ceramic! and the professional guys tell me it won't stick if you glue it on so I need to replace the whole guide and re-wrap, etc. I am being me and not listening and wondering why can't I super glue the damned thing. Don't they glue the ceramic at factory? The guide isn't coming out of the ground like that! I have been bypassing the guide and the fish don't care. I have more than enough back up rods but this is one of my favorite rods and I don't want to send it in. They may steal my fancy reel seat and exchange it with the new crapy ones. :p so my question is: 1- where can I buy the ceramic ring? 2- has anyone ever super glued one successfully? Thanks in advance

Use the ceramic ring from a replacement eye and glue it in. The worse thing that can happen is it falls out again. Then send it in.

I've replaced rings many times. Some have fallen out again, others have stayed put for years. Some rod building places used to sell just rings- I'm not sure these days. Get a guide with a matching ring. Cut the metal off with a saw or dremel. Clean and roughen both surfaces before gluing. Try super glue for quickness, but a good quick-set epoxy may well hold better. You'll be back on the water in 15 minutes!

Super glue (cyanoacrylate) is water soluble to a degree. I'd go with gsiegel's advice (prep well and use epoxy) if you don't want to send it in.

I believe that there is a place in puyallup that will fix it for $15.
I could fix it for the cost of a guide if you live close by.

I would send it in, just as Jerry suggested. That's the purpose of having back-up rods. Also, if you choose to sell the Rod it gives it credibility as to the quality and performance that the buyer or user can expect. For me, the performance of the Rod I use, helps to determind the quality of the fishing experience as a whole.

The fish might not care but I'm sure your line and the extra stress your rod is being exposed to do. First of all, what kind of rod do you have and why are you so paranoid about somone switching the handle? Just either send the rod in to the mfg. or find a local repair shop to do the work for $15 or so. I took one of my rods to Raleigh at Go-Fish-N Tackle Shop in Puyallup. He did a nice job keeping the eye straight with the others. Im sure there are several guys and gals on this site that could change out the eye for you also. This is just my way of thinking, but if its my favorite rod, I'm gonna wine and dine it untill she dies!

It is a really easy job. And the ressults you can get at home will be as good as it gets.

Thanks for the offers and advice. I was just trying to be like a steelhead and find the path of least resistance didn't want to go through the hassle of mailing it, etc. I was joking about them stealing my reel seat but it is my Loomis 1025C IMX which I bought 10+ years or so ago when I was single, dumb and had more money. It is an excellent rod and I love it but I have been buying cheaper rods these days. I saw a new 1025 imx in store and to be honest with you, I wouldn't want to get a new one for exchange. For some reason they want me to send in both piece. Anyways thanks again I think it may be easier to send it in and cross my fingers. Yukon, Nice fish and yes.

Hope John's replaces guides better then he repairs reels, took a Calcutta 251 into him that wasn't casting very well and squelled like an Ambassadeur, he replaced a couple parts including a side plate that he said he had never seen break, charged me $41, it casts better but still squells like an Ambassadeur. Next repair I'll try Ollie Damon.

Fenwick voided a rod warranty because I had an eye replaced due to the ceramic insert falling out. Although the replacement was done by a rod making professional, and the guide and rod wraps were as close to original as we could find, they claimed such work was a rod modification and voided a lifetime warranty.

I thought this was about a missing fishing guide too!
Did you pay the same guy I did $200 for a trip and he dissappeared? He had a loose eye that kept falling out and his speech was high pitched and sounded like an ambassadeur and his' dory leaked.
