A quick trip to my favorite spot last night for the 7:30ish tide change yielded a 36 and 32 inch pair of keepers for me and my buddy. Their tummies were full of shrimp and squid, and a couple smaller sand dabs. One caught on horse herring and the other on a white jig.

Them's some healthy looking lings. I want some.

You seem to have neglected to mention where your "favorite spot" is. I'm sure it's just an oversight?

Nice fishes SkyGuy. I don't think I've ever caught a ling in 8-9 areas. If ya send me the gps numbers I'd definately think of something to pay you back.

Well I wont just give it away. I dont have GPS numbers, but I do have a clue for all of you.

Think sunken Ferries and Diving websites. The information one can obtain from Diving forums, ...divers piping off about hordes of lings, catches a fishermans eye. I have fished this spot for years, but you couldnt have fished it before 1979.

Google can do wonders.

Yeah, back when I was diving on a nightly/daily basis, I'd write up where I went, what I found, and did a review, if necessary. I soon found out that a bunch of low-life, fish selling, internet bottom dwellers (Sky Guy excluded from this over-generalization) were following my every post. Seems that every time I mentioned that I found a cool little Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker, or a Grunt Sculpin, those fish would be gone the next day (these fish don't move around much and like to live in nooks and crannies). Seems people were using my info to go out and capture these fish for the saltwater aquarium business.

Kinda pissed me off. Fortunately, I caught on, and stopped giving out that kind of information - kinda like what happens on this site! ;\)

Less see if I can guess and ruin it for everyone.

Sunken ferry within any kind of range to Seattle and/or Edmonds?

Can you say Possession Point Ferry? That would be Parker's Guess.

Not too sure I know of any other large sunken shipwrecks, specifically ferries, in our area.

You can check out the boring review for yourself.

http://staff.washington.edu/parker/scuba/reviews/possptferry.html

Fortunately, I was smart enough to remove the GPS coordinates off of this review. You'll have to go find it yourself, and no, I won't email them to you, even if you do email me privately and ask for them.

Other places I'd look for lings would be:

Shilshole Jetty
West Point Barges (another "secret")
The "Fingers"
Tacoma Narrows
Sunrise Beach
Edmonds Jetty
Edmons Oil Dock
Al-In-Des-Ka Sea shipwreck
Any place up in the San Juans or Canada
Boeing Creek Reef
Blakely Rock
Waterman's Wall
Blake Island

I'm sure I'm missing a few of the well known spots. Find large structure, and you'll find the lings.

I've done a dive site review on all of these places. Feel free to browse my site to any useful information.

That's affirmitive Parker. I knew you would pipe in.

Just so you know, I Didnt get any info from your website. As a matter of fact, I fished this spot for some time before the internet existed. When you do a search on this spot for fishing info, in general the most info is found on the various PNW diving sites.

Well, Now that this spot is blown and will be fished clean of every Ling above 26 inches, I guess I'll stick to fishing a few other favorite spots!

Any word on that Moorage Park?

Are you sure about that Dogfish ? I have found Lings to be more habitat color oriented..

Sky Guy -- we are almost neighbors, may I come for dinner ? That's my favorite eatings.. I'll even bring white wine..

Years and years ago (late 70's) I gill netted for dogfish in area 8-2 -- Yes-sir-ee those 'puppies' were sent to England for fish and chips. Anyways, occasionally I'd get a huge Ling (30+) wound up in the net (maybe 2) and even a few large rock fish --- I'll bet the 'sporties' don't fish that area too much.. I may have to give it a try once I get my boat in the water this Spring.......

Go deep ---------

Yeah, that was some good Parker Bait you used there, Sky-Guy! Fish on! \:\)

No word from the Doc, Sky-Guy. I'll keep you posted as new info comes in.

You lingers would just FREAK OUT if you saw the quantity and size of the lings at the Edmonds Underwater Park.

I'm not kidding when I say the state record ling (easily) lives in that park! Oh yeah, and if there is one ling there, there are easily a couple hundred!

Fortunately, it's a fish sanctuary, and no fishing is allowed within the boundaries of the park.

I never did spear a fish while scuba diving. Was known to scoope up my 6 crabs in 10 minutes, but never a fish. I guess I just realized that there are not that many lings left in the Puget Sound to warrant any kind of fishery.
