This is the first summer I havne't spent in Forks since I was a kid and I really want to do some fishing. Most of the lakes around here are surrounded by parks or have residential all around them so shore access is hard to find. And I haven't found anyone that really knows much about the rivers here.
If you have some suggestions on some palces to go within a 30(or so) minute drive I would love to hear them.
Thanks.

Well, after living in B'ham for 17 years, I'd have to say your pretty lucky to be there in the summer. I don't think you'll find a nicer place. Here goes the list:
Whatcom Creek - SRCs at the tide water. When tide is out.
Kmart Ponds - use to hold warm water fish, I don't know any more.
Toad Lake - catfish.
Lake Padden - RB when the big mayflies begin to hatch (the more knowledgeable bug tosser can tell you the latin name, Hexagina? Mayfly, or check at H&H).
Dakota Creek - same as whatcom.
Samish River - SRCs around old 99 and tide water (Edison area). Kings will start showing soon.
Chuckanut Mt. Lakes - Mud, Fragerance, etc.... Float tube and Mt. bike helpful. CRs
Lower Sack will be open for kings for the first time in years. The NF Sack produces a lot of char. Middle fork can produce char. Both are glacial run off and tend to be colored.
SF Sack - SR, SK, SRCs, gets real low in the summer. Tubers and garbage are abundant. Most summers and kings will be above skookum creek by now (closed water up there, damn snaggers and poachers). Try around Saxon bridge.
Sandy Point - Silvers from the beach, can be good.
Raking crabs at chuckanut bay or birch bay can be good. Hit the crab grass at low time. Birch Bay also host a good population of horse clams. Hit it at a real minus tide.
HO-MI steelhead park on the skagit is only 60 minuts away. Good char fishing now.
Not to far from the Frazer or Vedder.
The area is small potatos compared to forks.
Enjoy, LT

Could you give me some directions to the following places? I have been here for 2 years but I have spent most of my time around the college. Pointing me in the general direction will be fine -------------- Whatcom Creek - SRCs at the tide water. When tide is out. Lower Sack will be open for kings for the first time in years. The NF Sack produces a lot of char. Middle fork can produce char. Both are glacial run off and tend to be colored. Sandy Point - Silvers from the beach, can be good.

Sandy Point - Silvers from the beach, can be good. Whatcom Creek is right downtown. If you've got a phone book, the city maps in there will show it (it's near the library, museum, courthouse). The "Sack" is the Nooksack. Sandy Point is on the west end of Lummi Bay. Take Slater Road off of I-5 and head west (I think it's exit 260, just a couple miles north of town). Then (I think) take Sucia Drive.

Try around Saxon bridge. This may be a stupid question, but what do the abbreviations "SR" and "SK" stand for?

Thanks BennyBlack! My guess was correct for SK, but I didn't even have a guess for SR. Thanks!
