LINE FOR JETTY FISHING?

I was wondering if anyone knows of a braided line with very good abrasion resistance for fishing from rock jetties? I was out on a jetty the other day and was using 12lb. power pro, and it snapped like a twig when I hooked a rockfish about 2#, and he swam behind a rock. Power pro suprisingly didn't have very good abrasion resistance at all. Monofiliment doesn't perform well out there either. Any sugestions?
Thanks!!

If you're going to use braided line, why use such skinny line when you could use a line that has the diameter or 20-30lb mono? What's wrong with using mono? It's the most commonly used line. I don't think you really need braid unless for some reason you're pretty darn well sure that you're going to catch a beast. How about trying some Dacron if you have lost all faith in mono. Besides, I'm not surprised if the rockfish you hooked dove for a kelp patch or if the line was cut by a barnacle or mussel. I don't know how you fought the fish, but I'm sure you know that allowing the fish any quarter is going to cost you.

Oh don't worry rockhopper, I was pressuring the fish as much as my gear could handle, but it seems like they are always able to find the rocks some way or another. And it doesn't help any that I was fishing from the shore and pulling the fish toward the rocks instead of away from them as you would in a boat.

Just curious, but which jetty were you fishing? Westport south jetty, north jetty at Ocean Shores, or north jetty at Fort Canby?

I'm curious to know what kind of rod and reel you were using. Even though the fish are not big(unless you're after lings), you're better off using something that has plenty of backbone so that you can steer the fish away from the rocks. I would recommend a medium heavy to heavy action rod. Reel isn't important unless you're after lingcod, then in that case you want one with a good drag. Also remember to properly set your drag. Don't get me wrong though, during slack tides you CAN get away with lighter tackle. By the way, if I didn't mention it before, I'll say that I do not believe there is any line out on the market that can truly stand up to the barnacles and mussels that are apt to slice your line.

I agree, rock jetties will make quick work of nearly any brand of line. I was using an 8' 6'' heavy action rod with a cardinal spinning reel with a fairly large amount of line capacity. Like you said, for rockfish, drag is not important because it should be winched tight so you can horse those fish out of their home. However, if you try that method on ling cod, you will most likely end up with a couple of broken rods on your hands.
