Hi everyone, I'm new to the board but not to fishing. Got tired of lurking.
I'm looking for help on where to put in/ take out my drift boat. I have only fished the Hoh from the bank and it was many years ago. Also, I hear that some access has been lost from the river moving around.
I'm not looking for the secret hole, I just was hoping for directions of where to put in and take out. I'm going up there August 6th and 7th.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

JT:
Been years since I fished the Hoh but here's what I can tell you
I only driftboated the lowed river:
Launch---either at the hiway bridge or Allen's Bar
Takeout---Either Nolan Creek, has a big sand/gravel State owned at the start of the road going in.
or
J & L Shake---Lower on the river, then Nolan Ck. and lot's of change the last time I was there.
All of these sites are on the hiway side of the river.
Might be a fee to launch at Allen Bar...
Hope this helps.......just got another idea..maybe you should do a search in this forum..I'm sure others have asked the same question.

I have never drifted it but I have heard from friends that you need to know your rowing capabilities and need to do some scouting and such good luck.

JT , the easiest lower drift is Cottonwood campground to Barlow's. Both accessed off Oil City Road off Hwy 101. That being said, I haven't drifted it this year. Cottonwood is a questionable launch year to year. Sometimes you can get to it, sometimes you can't. Cottonwood is a DNR campground, free to launch, and is hard to miss. Barlow's take outs are near the end of Oil City Road and easy to miss. From year to year they may have one or two take-outs.

J and L shake is no longer an option. the river took it out. Also Barlows is a bit of a rough launch. Its about a five ir six foot drop to the water. The lower hoh in low water can be a bit hairy. So whatch what you are doing. Put in at the oxbow it is free and is just before the 101 bridge heading north. Barlows is west on Oil city road several miles but its the first place the road comes close to the river. There will be a mail box you put your 5 bucks in.
Good luck

Oxbow to Barlow is a loooong drift. I've done it. But you have to haul arse to make it out before dark. Oxbow to Nolan's is short drift but an option you can check in to. I'm not sure Nolan's is usable any longer. This like any other river can change quickly. Be on your toes, in these low waters you may find yourself dragging a bit and dodging some rock. Your best bet is to get over there and ask around Forks for some fresh information.

Another option for a shorter float is Oxbow to Cottonwood.

I would stay out of the canyon if you have to ask about oxbow down. As long as you pay attention you shouldn't run into any problems from oxbow down. I would do oxbow down to nolans creek. Good luck. Going all the way to barlow's is a long float.

Hey Kevin, I'm with you on that! I've heard of nasty accidents happened in the canyon above 101. Definitely don't want to mess with danger when I'm about to endeavor a new river. Come this fall, I'll try Oxbow to Cottonwood and Oxbow to Nolan's. One other question: Where exactly is Allen's bar? Is that the bar just below 101 bridge on north side of the river? Thanks! Fellows. JT, I apologize for barging in on your post. Thanks for your post that I was about to post! Good Luck to you in August! I plan on floating the lower hoh in October. Summer-Run
