On Saturday, I found the Lowell-River road and casted dnites for a couple hours. This was my first time on the river and I didn't really have a clue what I was doing. Anyway, I managed to catch one 7inch trout. The river was way up - I could see intact flowers and bushes just past the water's edge. So, I'm blaming my success on that, plus I don't think the fish are really in the system yet. There were a few other bank fisherman and a lot of boats zooming up and down. I heard some people from boats saying "Hey, we'll have to pull out the smoker when we get home!". So, I know some people were having success. I did see about 7 chrome coho jump clear out of the water while I was there, which for me made the trip - now I know of a place to go and I know there are fish there.
As for the Samish - I went there for just a couple hours with my dad on Sunday. Once again, this was my first time on the river and fishing for Kings. We missed hitting the tide right and really weren't sure we were doing it right. But, we had a good time and the weather was perfect. There were about 10-15 other people there at the mouth of the Samish. We only saw one caught fish - looked to be about 14lbs. There were about 5-6 that we saw jump/roll, which is exciting just by itself (can you tell I'm a newbie to this?).
Here's a shot of my dad with other people in the background (to give you an idea of how many people were there as the tide was just starting to come in in the late afternoon):
Now for the funny part: The side of the river we were fishing on (at low tide) was marshy and had a make shift bridge made out of a couple crates and a plank. This was all perfectly dry and had water below it about a foot or more down as we arrived. When we left, with what we thought was plenty of time, we found the "bridge" to be under water and one of the crates completely submerged. We were taken by surprise as the river which you can see people fishing at in the background was a distance away:
So, what to do? We had to try to jump it, even though it was too far. My dad caught my attempt on his camera with video mode:
Crossing The Bridge (4MB MOV File) I'd be grateful if any bank fisherman who know what they're doing on the Snoho (or Samish) would want to meet up and could show me the ropes - I'll bring the eggs and/or dnites. I hope you enjoyed the pics and video. Tight Lines!
