"ive tried everything that i can think of.... an not even a nibble... jumpin all around me... an nothing...."

This reminds me of a joke I saw in the past:

Q. Why do salmon jump?
A. Because they don't have middle fingers.

\:D

I probably shouldn't be smiling... I've tried to catch Snohomish coho every year for the last few years and have yet to get even a SINGLE bite...

I grew up on the Snohomish and have fished it for 40 years the bite is real fickle. Most of the people catching consistantly are flossing fish. Not everyone but most .

Use a size #1 Dick Nite. Use the 50/50 - half copper half silver.

This is one size up from the Wee Nite. Wee Nites will also work.

Fish them like you would a standard drift fishing rig. Lengthen the leader to about 6 feet.

If fished correctly, *every* fish taken will be in the tip of the snout.

If fished incorrectly, *every* fish taken will be in the corner of the mouth. Can you say floss-o-rama?

Dick Nites work best in slack water to back eddy's. Cast behind the fish and SLOWY, and I DO MEAN SLOWLY, retrieve the Dick Nite back to you. They will hit it as it passes them from behind. Did I mention SLOWLY????

The fish will either stop or "DINK" the Dick Nite. Set the hook and enjoy.

Big swirling eddies packed with milling fish are great places for Dick Nites. The big eddie below Lewis St. is a great place to fish Dick Nites when they are in there.

I think everyone is fishing either Crab Bar or Thomas Eddie now (from the bank). Sleds or drift boats will go until you find a lot of fish rolling.

You can work a Dick Nite across a swift current, but odds are, you are just flossing fish as they pass by. At least that is what happens every time I tend to target coho in traveling lanes. Floss fest.

You can also troll the dick nites behind a jet diver, also with 5 or 6 feet of leader. I also do well with various colors of wiggle warts. Some people swear by a specific color - I have yet to find a color that doesn't work.

Parker- I'm sorry you think this is just a floss fest. Out of the seven I hooked last night 5 of them were casting and retrieving wiggle warts and the two on d.nites were both way inside the mouth. Guys this is a world class fishery right in our back yard. Go out and get them...it's awesome!!!

All I said CM was that fish hooked in the corner of the mouth (inside or outside) with a Dick Nite has been flossed. At least that is my theory, and I'm sticking with it.

It's really tough to floss a fish in the nose. Those I can say, without a doubt, are NOT flossed with a Dick Nite.

Casting Wiggle Warts from a boat is very productive. Never done it from shore, so that's why I did not include that technique. There is nothing more fun that "BassMastering" coho with Wiggle Warts.

Likewise, so is running a wrapped K-15, and I'm sure you can cast one from shore, but not something I'd do. One of THE most effective methods for Sky Coho later in the fall.

Finally, I didn't mention hootchie spinners, yet that's another killer way to get Snoho Coho.

The Snoho fishery doesn't *have* to be a floss fest if you know what you are doing. Obviously, you do. Unfortunately, many do not, and as we all know, it only takes a few to turn something good in to something bad.

Parker- I don't quite agree with your inside the corner of the mouth floss theory...but we are all entitled to our opinion. The other methods Parker mentioned our definitely worth the effort also. Go have fun with these fish they are beautiful!

Seeing is believing. I'd have to show you, CM. I bet I'd make a believer out of you.

Uh...I mean....uh....if I *knew* how to floss with a Dick Nite, I'd have to show you.... ;\)

Was out last night at the end of Curch School Road. Had one on a dick night and lost him. I only fish about a 24" leader with a sliding lead.

Wiggle warts do work from shore - watch the trees! It sucks losing 5-6 bucks in a tree behind you - especially when you get to look at for 2 weeks cause it's orange and then finally somebody small enough climbs up there to get it.

Based on my experience - I'd be less concerned with any dick nite flossing compared to the grappling hook buzz fest going on. Please read the regs and abide them. I saw at least 6 people doing this and they told me where to shove it when I suggested they use a 3/4" single hook.

Hey Canyon Man,

What lb-test line are you using for these fish? I'm wondering whether I need to upgrade to heavier line (e.g., around 15 lb test) for better chances of landing them from shore, or whether you seem to get better lure action and hookups with lighter line, such as 10-12 lb test.

Of course, this assumes that I will be able to get one of them to bite in the first place...

thanks in advance

When fishing Dick Nites, I ran rods and gear suited for summer steelhead. A 1082s, 2000-2500 series reel spooled up with 10lb test, and 8lb leader is always good.

As I always say, it's better to hook and lose, than not to hook at all. As Canyon Man said - it's all for fun, right? You will be surprised at how many fish you DO NOT lose ono 8lb UG leaders....

For the plugs, I'd run straight 12, or 10. Or, 12 main and a 10 shock-leader.

Spinners I run on straight 12.

Why 12 - 'cuz that is what I have on all my baitcasters! ;\)

On the line weight question, I run straight 10 lb maxima UG, and it catches everything. Most people don't appreciate how much hurt you can put on a fish with 10lb test.
