Father-Daughter Talk
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat and was for distribution of all wealth.
She felt deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican which she expressed openly. One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to higher taxes on the rich & the addition of more government welfare programs. Based on the lectures that she had participated in and the occasional chat with a professor she felt that for years her father had obviously harbored an evil, even selfish, desire to keep what he thought should be his.
The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He stopped her and asked her point blank how she was doing in school. She answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain. That she studied all the time, never had time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of spending all her time studying-- that she was taking a more difficult curriculum.
Her father listened and then asked, "How is your good friend Mary doing?"
She replied, "Mary is barely getting by." She continued, "She barely has a 2.0 GPA," adding, "and all she takes are easy classes and she never studies. But Mary is so very popular on campus, college for her is a blast, she goes to all the parties all the time and very often doesn't even show up for classes because she is too hung over."
Her father then asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your 4.0 GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0." He continued, "That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."
The daughter visibly shocked by her father's suggestion angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I worked really hard for mine, I did without and Mary has done little or nothing, she played while I worked real hard!"
The father slowly smiled, winked and said: "Welcome to the Republican Party."

Middle Class Said To Pay Higher Tax Rate Than Heinz Kerry And Kerry Mon Oct 11 2004 10:22:17 ET
Stephen Moore, president of the Club for Growth, writes in the WALL STREET JOURNAL on Monday: "According to the Kerrys' own tax records, and they have not released all of them, the couple had a combined income of $6.8 million in income last year and paid $725,000 in income taxes. That means their effective tax rate was a whopping 12.8%.... "Under the current tax system the middle class pays far more than the Kerry tax rate. In fact, the average federal tax rate -- combined payroll and income tax -- for a middle-class family is closer to 20% or more. George W. and Laura Bush, who had an income one- tenth of the Kerrys', paid a tax rate of 30%. ...
"Here is the man who finds clever ways to reduce his own tax liability while voting for higher taxes on the middle class dozens of times in his Senate career. He even voted against the Bush tax cut that saves each middle-class family about $1,000." The Kerrys "have unwittingly made the case for what George W. Bush says he wants to do: radically simplify and flatten out the tax code. ... So before John Kerry is given the opportunity to raise taxes again on American workers, shouldn't he and Teresa at least pay their fair share?"

i can see that this forum is not least bit biased. KJ, I am sure that your buddy bush pays the same rate that Kerry and Edwards pay, but I don't see any mention of that!

SSF-- A) My original post was a joke with no direct mention of anyone paying any taxes. True, there is a touch of the ant-and-the-grasshopper fable, but that's about as far as it goes. If the shoe fits... B) If you READ the thread, there is a mention of how much income tax Bush pays, or at least the rate at which he pays taxes. I'm not the author of that post. and C) I haven't met Bush, talked to him on the phone or e-mailed the guy. And you think he's my buddy? If you think this forum is biased, you haven't been reading it for a while. The liberal side seems to be quiet at the moment, but as the election nears, I'm sure you'll be able to see more from them, more from the conservatives, more from just about everybody, even a couple of posters who probably qualify for the Martian discount at the local Space Cadet store. The way the Republican Father-Daughter talk really went:
Blah, blah, blah Blah, blah, blah.
Her father then asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and get a list of everyone with a 3.0 gpa. Then we'll have him deduct 1.0 from their gpa's, and give it to our friends who already have 4.0's. Then, they'll all have whopping 5.0 gpa's, and everyone else will have a 2.0.
The daughter visibly confused by her father's math, answered back, "But, I hardly worked for mine. What's a gpa, anyway?"
Her father slowly scowled. Then he drawled, "Hell, I don't know. Don't you have a party to go to?"

SSF,
Bush paid 30%
Had the position been reversed and Kerry was president he would have paid 30% and Bush would have paid 12%. If you understand how the IRS works and where motivated you could do the same.
