Stupidest act you've seen/done while fishing?

Time to fess up guys. What's the stupidest thing you've seen while fishing, or done yourself? Here's mine.
Last year I was out on Des Moines pier. I'd been getting fouled up on the reef all morning, and had just about had it. The next time I got caught, I just yanked back on the rod as hard as I could out of frustration. All of a sudden there was this *SNAP* and pieces of the rod were falling everywhere. The line was still whole, though, and the top of the rod slid down it into the water. I looked up and said out loud to myself, "Man that was stupid." and the guy next to me goes, "Well, I didn't want to say anything, but yeah, it was pretty stupid." Luckily, I always carry two rods with me and was able to finish up the day, skunked.

missing drain plug story- short- no plug, launch boat, neice and step son watch boat fill up with water at launch, mad dash to retrieve boat now full of water. No other witnesses=priceless.

OK not a plug but a fire. I was on a guided trip fishing on the Cowitz a couple of winters ago. Hooked a nice fish in the lower section below BC. We drifted down stream not noticing an approaching tree in the river until we were right on top of it. The guide put the motor in gear and in the process threw me up against the propane heater. I continued to focus on the fish but started smelling something different wafting up around me. Someone in a passing boat yelled "Hey, you're on fire!!" and sure enough I was. The focus changed quickly. Put the fire out but lost the fish. Lesson learned - stay as far away from the heater as possible!!

We launched the boat and I thought I tied it to the dock. Had to move the motor home and when I got back the boat was gone. This was night time so I was able to wave a guy over in his boat to help me look for it. Hour later he gave up so I went walking around the lake and a half hour later I found it against some rocks in 2feet of water with the motor still running. Hopped in and went back to the dock. I FORGOT TO TIE THE BOAT TO THE DOCK. The Duck

Here is the scene, mid november air temp 30degrees, water temp maybe 45, snowing like there was no tomorrow. Fishing my home river below a coffer dam for steelies with a buddy we can't help notice this idiot casting a spoon right up into the dam in an area that is clearly marked no fishing. OK, this guy gets hung up on bottom with his gorrila cable and cannot pull it free, so he hands his rod off to his buddy, proceeds to take off his jacket and tshirt, empties his pockets and dives right in to retrieve his $2 spoon. Somehow he got it out of the rocks and made it back to shore, then puts his clothes back on and starts casting again. We seen this guy pull the same stunt one more time before retreating for some warmth.
Another one was this past fall at a boat ramp. We had just pulled our boat out of the water and had some guys next to us doing the same. The guys next to us start pulling there 16ft aluminum V out of the water and as soon as they get it up the ramp it flips over off from the trailer smashing all of there rods, reels, tackle, motor casing, etc.. We did help them get the boat back on the trailer but had a hell of a laugh on the way home.

First time fishing with this particular board member so I won't name him. Launch at Sultan on the SKY. Drift around the corner and decide to anchor in front of the rip rap for a while. Oh CRAP!!! Current WAY too fast. Hook snags bottom, boat nearly submerges, anchor is fouled so pulling it up requires lining up current. Just about to cut line when the anchor comes loose. Three sets of dirty pants to change. The only thing that kept us from getting very wet was one of us leaning out over the bow to sort of counterbalance the boat. Judging from some recent posts, this particular evolution should be the subject of mandatory boat training for anyone launching there. It seems to be a common occurance that doesn't always turn out as happily as it did for us. G

Mine was this summer at the Clay Banks I was trolling and there was a boat mooching right in front of me. I trolled around him maybe 50' away and saw they had a fish on the surface right next to the boat. I usually turn away to get away but they had it there and I figured they'd net it and all would be fine, plus I wanted to see the fish when they pulled it out of the water. It made a run down so I didn't get to see it. Well, I was about 100' away when my downrigger pops and I set the hook and feel a constant pull and see the dude with the fish on fighting toward me. I knew instantly that his fish ran into my rig and we snagged up so I just freespooled and let him reel me in. He was not happy to see his fish turned into a flasher and hootchie. They shouted some friendly encouragments to me and asked if I wanted my gear back. I shook my head yes and he threw it in for me to reel in. I was so disgusted with myself that I just reeled in all my gear and went home.
If that was someone on here - Sorry, dude!

Three years ago I was fishing Vernita for salmon and hooked a big sturgeon. No boats around so I figured what the hell, I'll try and land him. Two hours later my hands were tired and the sturgeon was not. I almost jumped in after the pole when it slipped out of my hands but was so tired from fighting the fish I figured I would have probably swam like a rock. If anyone found a Berkley Series 1 10-25lb salmon rod with a 8ft sturgeon hooked to it..........Can I have it back.

The plastic bushings on the flow redirector on my jet had broken off and the part was rattling like crazy. This is the part that kicks over the nozzle to give a jet reverse. I took it off when I figured out what the rattling was because I didn't use it anyway.
On my next trip out with some of my buds we fished all day and had a real good time, caught fish, had a good lunch and all. When I came back in to the boat ramp I head straight for the rock bank and threw the boat into reverse and gunned it. OOOOPS it didn't slow down!

I was fishing the big eddie on the Snoqualmie River near the mouth of Tokul Creek a couple of years ago. One of the guys upstream in the creek itself hooked a fish which then did the run downstream. Lower in the creek, another fisherman was standing in the water fishing. As the fish ran down past him, rather than step back out of the water, the guy tried to simply jump straight up and let the line go under him. Well, he jumped and the fast current of the creek knocked his feet right out from under him. He got swept downstream a bit but wasn't injured at all.

I was fishing with my uncle when we where about 12 in a small Snohomish county creek. We had just caught enough grass hoppers ,to resupply for the rest of the day, from a big field. We stop at the electric fence between us and the creek and he says " I got to pee wanna see what happens when I pee on the fence ?" I said "sure". He starts peeing then lets out a scream and jumps back a few feet and falls to the ground. He is laying on the ground with his wedding tackle in his hand and his eye sall bugged out groaning. It was a few minutes before he could speak. He did not say much the rest of the day and kind of a glazed look in his eyes. Another time he had waded out to the middle of a small river trying to fish a hole before I got there. We competitively fished each always trying to catch more, bigger faster than the other. Anyhow I see him out on this rock and he is all hunched up. I yelled to him to see what he was doing. He yells back that I need to wade out and help him. turns out he got to the rock and had to pee . He saw me coming and decides he better hurry and get his line in the water. He zips his wanker in his Jeans zipper and it's stuck, real stuck. I tell him I will just yank the zipper real hard so we can get back to fishing. He says no thanks and wants me to help him wade back to shore so he can go back to camp and have his mom look at it.
